Job summary

Sterling Hospitals in Ahmedabad seeks a Senior Resident for Emergency Room (ER) to evaluate and manage patients with acute illnesses and life-threatening emergencies. You will support triage, stabilization, investigations, and timely referrals, working closely with physicians, nurses, and departments.

You will coordinate airway management, arrange admissions, and ensure accurate documentation while following safety and hospital protocols. Clinical leadership for juniors is expected.

Qualifications

• MD or DNB in anaesthesiology or emergency medicine.
• 1–3 years of experience in ER/ICU settings.
• Ability to manage critical patients and coordinate care.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with medical, surgical, or traumatic emergencies.
• Perform initial evaluation and establish provisional diagnoses.
• Support triage and prioritize based on urgency.
• Initiate emergency treatment and stabilization per protocols.
• Monitor vitals and detect deterioration.
• Assist with resuscitation and ACLS/BLS as trained.
• Coordinate airway management with the clinical team.
• Order and interpret labs, ECGs, imaging as needed.
• Prescribe/treat within scope and authorization.
• Assist with emergency procedures under supervision.
• Coordinate with specialists for urgent care.
• Arrange admissions, referrals, transfers when required.
• Monitor response to treatment and reassess status.
• Collaborate with nursing for timely treatment execution.
• Maintain accurate emergency documentation.
• Communicate findings and plans with patients/families.
• Ensure safe transfer to ICU, OR, wards or other facilities.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols.
• Report adverse events and incidents promptly.
• Participate in drills and quality improvement activities.
• Mentor junior residents and interns in ED duties.

Job Description

The Senior Resident - Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for evaluating and managing patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening emergencies. The involves triage support, initial stabilization, emergency treatment, coordination of investigations, and timely referral or admission. The Senior Resident works closely with emergency physicians, consultants, nurses, and other departments to ensure rapid clinical assessment, effective emergency response, accurate documentation, and continuity of patient care.

• Assess patients presenting with medical, surgical, and traumatic emergencies.
• Perform initial clinical evaluations and establish provisional diagnoses.
• Support triage and prioritize patients according to clinical urgency.
• Initiate emergency treatment and stabilization in accordance with hospital protocols.
• Monitor vital signs and identify signs of clinical deterioration.
• Assist with resuscitation and advanced life support within training and authorization.
• Coordinate airway management and other emergency interventions with the appropriate clinical team.
• Request and interpret relevant laboratory tests, ECGs, and imaging investigations.
• Administer or prescribe treatment within professional scope and hospital authorization.
• Perform or assist with emergency procedures within competency and supervision requirements.
• Coordinate with specialists for urgent consultations and definitive treatment.
• Arrange admissions, referrals, and transfers for patients requiring further care.
• Monitor patients responses to treatment and reassess clinical status regularly.
• Coordinate with nursing staff to ensure timely execution of treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate emergency assessment notes, treatment records, and clinical documentation.
• Communicate clinical findings and treatment plans to patients and families appropriately.
• Ensure safe transfer of patients to the ICU, operating theatre, wards, or other facilities.
• Follow infection prevention, isolation, and emergency safety protocols.
• Report adverse events, medication-related concerns, and critical incidents promptly.
• Participate in emergency drills, case reviews, and quality improvement activities.
• Support and guide junior residents and interns in emergency department duties.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital policies and medical ethics.
