Job summary

Samsonite International S.A. in Mumbai seeks a Design & Development Manager to lead retail projects, ensuring brand alignment, operational requirements, customer experience standards, and regulatory compliance across malls, airports, high streets and lifestyle stores.

The role coordinates cross-functional teams including Retail, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Legal and Operations, reviews layouts and budgets, and mentors contractors to deliver projects on time.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of experience in Retail Projects or Store Development.
• Experience across malls, airports, and premium retail environments.
• Proven ability to manage contractors and vendors.
• Fluent in English; Marathi and Hindi advantageous.

Design & Development Management

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, architects, designers, and consultants to translate business requirements into effective retail formats.

Ensure all retail designs meet brand guidelines, operational requirements, customer experience standards, and regulatory requirements.

Review and approve layouts, drawings, material specifications, and store development plans.

Draft, evaluate, and present project proposals, business cases, and investment recommendations to senior management.

Identify, onboard, and manage contractors, suppliers, architects, and project partners.

Negotiate pricing, timelines, service levels, commercial terms, and contracts with vendors to optimise cost and quality.

Ensure vendor performance is monitored against agreed deliverables and project milestones.

Stakeholder Management

Act as the primary point of contact for cross-functional teams including Retail, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Operations.

Provide regular project status updates and management reviews to leadership teams.

Ensure alignment of project objectives with overall business and brand strategies.

Budget & Compliance Management

Manage project budgets, CAPEX, and cost controls to deliver projects within approved financial parameters.

Ensure adherence to statutory regulations, safety requirements, leasing guidelines, and corporate policies.

Drive continuous improvement in project execution processes, vendor management, and retail development standards.

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Civil Engineering, Interior Design, Project Management, or a related field.

Experience Requirements –

Minimum 6-8 years of experience in Retail Projects, Store Development, Construction, or Project Management.

Proven experience managing retail expansion projects across malls, airports, high streets, and organised retail environments.

Experience working with premium or lifestyle brands will be an advantage.
