Job summary

Birla Precision Technologies seeks a results-driven Sourcing & Ecommerce Product Manager to lead category analysis, supplier development, and product launches for power tool accessories. You will own the P&L for sourced products from day one and coordinate with KAMs on launch plans.

The role emphasizes identifying high-demand gaps, evaluating suppliers (Alibaba, Canton Fair), negotiating terms, and building an approved vendor list to optimize landed costs and margins.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of product sourcing/ecommerce buying experience, especially with private label/imports.
  • Hands-on Alibaba.com experience for supplier identification, RFQs and trade assurance.
  • Understanding of import logistics including Incoterms, BOM, HS codes and duties.
  • Experience managing sample cycles and quality control processes.
  • Ability to build landed cost models and evaluate product viability at target price.
  • Strong negotiation skills with Chinese suppliers, English required (Mandarin a bonus).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Category & Opportunity Identification
  • Analyse Amazon.in and Flipkart category data to identify high-demand, under-supplied product gaps in the Power tool & accessories segment
  • Research search volume, competitor listings, pricing bands, and review counts for target categories make a structured business case for each new product family
  • Identify which product categories are best sourced externally vs. manufactured in-house — present recommendations to quarterly
  • Monitor competitor product launches (Bosch, Freemans, Jon Bhandari, Taparia) and identify where BPT can compete on quality, price, or range
  • Build and maintain a 12-month new product launch calendar
Supplier Development & Sourcing
  • Identify and evaluate suppliers via Alibaba.com, Canton Fair (April and October), Made-in-China, and direct referrals from existing vendor network
  • Conduct structured supplier due diligence: production capacity, existing export certifications, client list, factory audit reports, and quality management systems
  • Manage the RFQ (Request for Quotation) process — obtain pricing, MOQ, lead time, and packaging options from minimum 3 suppliers per category
  • Negotiate commercial terms: unit price, MOQ, payment terms (standard: 30% advance, 70% against Bill of Lading), tooling costs, and delivery timelines
  • Build and maintain an Approved Vendor List — minimum 10 qualified China suppliers by Month 6, with vendor scorecards updated quarterly
  • Scorecard criteria: quality pass rate, on-time delivery, price competitiveness, responsiveness, certification compliance
Ecommerce Product Management
  • Own the product P&L for every sourced product from Day 1 — landed cost, marketplace fees, advertising spend, returns provision, and net margin
  • Brief the Catalogue & Content Specialist on new product specifications — dimensions, material, certifications, target applications, and competitor comparison
  • Brief the KAM (Amazon & Flipkart) on new product launch plan — pricing strategy, initial ad budget, Vine enrolment, and target ranking
  • Review and approve all listing content for sourced products before go-live — ensure technical accuracy of titles, bullet points, and specifications
  • Monitor new product performance for the first 90 days post-launch — sales velocity, return rate, customer feedback, and ranking trajectory
  • Make reorder decisions based on sell-through rate, Amazon IPI score, and storage cost — avoid stockouts and overstock simultaneously
Reporting & MIS
  • Monthly product pipeline report: categories under evaluation, sampling status, certification status, and projected launch dates
  • Quarterly new product review: performance of launched products vs. projection — GMV, margin, return rate, ranking
  • Vendor performance scorecard: updated quarterly and shared with GM — highlights best-performing and at-risk suppliers
  • Landed cost tracker: maintained for every active and pipeline product — updated monthly as freight and duty rates change
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-Have Skills & Experience
  • 4–7 years in product sourcing, ecommerce buying, private label development, or import/export — specifically with China manufacturers
  • Hands-on experience with Alibaba.com — supplier identification, RFQ process, price negotiation, and trade assurance
  • Understanding of import logistics: Incoterms (FOB, CIF), Bill of Lading, customs clearance, HS codes, and duty calculation
  • Experience managing sample cycles and quality control processes
  • Commercial acumen — ability to build a landed cost model and evaluate product viability at a target selling price
  • Strong negotiation skills — comfortable negotiating with Chinese suppliers in English (Mandarin is a bonus)
Good to Have
  • Experience sourcing power tool accessories, abrasives, hardware, or industrial goods — category knowledge accelerates vendor evaluation
  • Mandarin language skills — basic conversational Mandarin is a meaningful advantage in factory negotiations
  • Attendance at Canton Fair — established vendor relationships from direct factory visits
  • Knowledge of BIS certification process — has managed BIS applications before
  • Experience with Amazon private label — understanding of how sourced products perform on Amazon vs. branded products
