Role & responsibilities
The Senior Manager / Assistant General Manager - SCM is responsible for leading end-to-end supply chain functions, integrating Strategic Procurement, Raw Material Planning, Inventory Optimization and Logistics/Distribution across high-volume, ISO-certified manufacturing operations. This role oversees multi-plant planning, capacity allocation across all in-house machines, supplier relationship management, CapEx/OpEx procurement and S&OP alignment to sustain On-Time Delivery (OTD) and drive continuous cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate global and domestic procurement strategies across engineering thermoplastics, thermoset compounds, tool steels, mold hardware and capital machinery.
- Establish long-term vendor partnerships, Annual Rate Contracts (ARCs) and index-linked pricing models to hedge commodity fluctuations and yield consistent year-on-year savings.
- Institutionalize strategic vendor governance, performance scorecards and multi-tier risk mitigation frameworks across primary producers and job-work partners.
- Direct the material planning stream within the S&OP framework, translating customer forecasts and production requirements into synchronized raw material delivery schedules.
- Drive MRP runs, parameters and lead-time buffering within ERP (Focus) to align material availability with multi-plant molding and Tool Room project milestones.
- Partner with manufacturing and engineering to manage consumption variances, regrind ratios, purge optimization and engineering change notes (ECNs) impacting bill-of-materials consumption.
- Establish supplier rolling forecasts and Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) frameworks to eliminate line stockouts while preventing over-commitments.
- Define enterprise inventory policies across raw polymers, thermoset resins, tool steels, mold spares and operating consumables.
- Enforce dynamic stocking models (ABC/VED/FSN, dynamic safety stock, min-max thresholds) to maximize Inventory Turnover Ratios (ITR) and release operating cash flow.
- Institutionalize strict Slow-Moving and Obsolete (SLOB) governance and shelf-life monitoring (FEFO) for temperature- and pot-life-sensitive materials.
- Direct warehouse and crib audit governance, ensuring robust lot/heat-number traceability and 100% physical-to-book stock reconciliation.
- Architect inbound and outbound logistics networks, optimizing freight cost-per-ton, route consolidation and load utilization (FTL/PTL).
- Oversee EXIM operations, ensuring smooth customs clearance, freight forwarder management, and CHA governance for capital equipment, resins and specialized tooling.
- Enforce transport service-level agreements (SLAs), transit risk management and protective packaging standards to eliminate transit damages.
- Drive digitalization of procurement and material planning workflows, standardizing automated multi-level BOMs, purchase requisitions and ERP master data accuracy.
- Deploy executive SCM dashboards to monitor macro KPIs: forecast adherence, Days of Inventory (DOI), cost variance against budget and supplier OTIF.
- Ensure complete compliance with ISO/IATF quality frameworks, statutory trade regulations, hazardous material storage protocols and scrap monetization standards.
Preferred candidate profile
- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering / Plastics Technology or MBA in Supply Chain Management (SCM) with 1620 years of experience in the plastic injection molding industry.
- Hands-on proficiency in ERP systems and digital procurement/e-sourcing suites.
- In-depth technical familiarity with thermoplastic injection molding cycle dynamics, thermoset curing mechanisms, mold construction/drawings, tool room machining steps (milling, EDM, grinding), and multi-part BOMs.
- Mastery of demand forecasting models, MRP logic, capacity balancing, S&OP, Advanced MS Excel, and Power BI dashboards.
- Practical knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, 5S, SMED, and statutory manufacturing/EXIM compliance.
