Job summary

Weekday AI is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel in Pune to provide strategic and day-to-day legal support across operations, corporate matters, and global activities. You will lead SaaS and commercial contracts and help manage data protection and regulatory risks.

You will partner with Sales, Procurement, Finance, Technology, and other teams to draft, negotiate, and implement legal playbooks and standard templates while ensuring alignment with internal policies and risk parameters.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in software/SaaS context.
• Experience drafting and negotiating SaaS, licensing, services and partner agreements.
• Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy laws for tech companies.

We are looking for a commercially minded and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic and day-to-day legal support across business operations, corporate matters, commercial transactions, and global activities. The role requires strong expertise in SaaS agreements, commercial contracting, data protection, legal risk management, and contract negotiation.

The ideal candidate will combine strong legal expertise with a practical understanding of business objectives. You will work closely with internal teams and global stakeholders to structure, negotiate, and manage agreements while helping the organisation maintain effective legal processes and mitigate commercial and regulatory risks.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements.
• Handle SaaS agreements, software licensing agreements, professional services agreements, partner agreements, and related commercial contracts.
• Provide practical legal advice to business teams on commercial transactions, contractual obligations, and legal risks.
• Support corporate and ongoing business matters involving the organisation and its global subsidiaries.
• Identify contractual, regulatory, data protection, and commercial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Partner with Sales, Business Development, Procurement, Finance, Technology, Operations, and other stakeholders on legal requirements.
• Lead contract negotiations with customers, partners, vendors, service providers, and other external stakeholders.
• Review contractual terms relating to data protection, confidentiality, intellectual property, liability, indemnification, warranties, termination, and applicable laws.
• Ensure commercial agreements are aligned with internal policies, risk parameters, and applicable legal requirements.
• Support legal due diligence and provide legal input into strategic business initiatives and transactions.
• Develop and continuously improve standard contract templates, clauses, legal playbooks, and negotiation guidelines.
• Establish and improve internal legal processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and contract turnaround times.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation relating to contracts, legal matters, and corporate activities.
• Monitor developments in relevant commercial, technology, privacy, and data protection laws.
• Work effectively with global stakeholders across different jurisdictions and time zones.
• Provide timely and commercially practical legal guidance while balancing business objectives with legal and regulatory considerations.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT

• 5+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a software, SaaS, technology, or technology-enabled company.
• Strong hands-on experience drafting and negotiating SaaS and commercial technology agreements.
• Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy laws relevant to technology and SaaS businesses.
• Proven experience handling software licensing, professional services, partnership, vendor, and customer agreements.
• Strong understanding of commercial contracting, intellectual property, confidentiality, liability, indemnification, and contractual risk.
• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, contract-review, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical, and business-oriented advice.
• Native-level or highly proficient written and spoken English communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Proactive, commercially aware, and results-oriented approach to legal support.
• Ability to independently manage multiple legal matters and priorities with minimal supervision.
