Job summary

Barani Hydraulics India private limited, Arasur, Coimbatore, is seeking a Senior Engineer - Tool Design to lead the conceptualization, design and detailing of press tools for sheet metal stamping. You will create 3D models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks (with GD&T) and contribute to tool costing and development.

The role requires hands-on experience with progressive, compound, and forming tools, close collaboration with Tool Room and suppliers, and adherence to APQP/PPAP and IATF 16949/VDA

Job description

Position Title: Senior Engineer - Tool Design

Department: New Product Development (NPD) / Tool Engineering

Reports To: NPD Head / Tool Design Manager

Role & responsibilities

Conceptualize, design, and detail complete press tools for sheet metal stamping, including progressive dies, compound dies, transfer dies, and blanking/form tools.

• Prepare and manage 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly, with primary proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to all component and assembly drawings.
• Conduct strip layout and nesting to optimize material utilization for efficient production.
• Select appropriate tool materials and define heat treatment specifications based on application, wear, and stamping requirements.
• Prepare tool Costing and monitoring the cost during tool development.

Support & Collaboration

• Work with Tool Room teams and suppliers to provide technical guidance during the manufacturing and assembly of tooling.
• Participate in and support tool try-outs, prove-outs, and debugging activities on the shop floor. Provide solutions to resolve design-related issues during trials to ensure \"First Time Right\" (FTR) success.

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain all engineering documentation including technical drawings, BOMs, design records, and revision controls.
• Adhere to APQP, PPAP, and IATF 16949 / VDA 6.3 standards as they relate to tooling development.

Technical Skills

• CAD Software: Expert proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, surfacing, and 2D detailing (mandatory). Experience with AutoCAD for detailing.
• Press Tool Design: Proven hands-on experience in designing progressive, compound, and forming tools for sheet metal operations (blanking, piercing, bending, drawing, trimming etc..).
