Job summary

Royal Enfield in India seeks a Senior Engineer / Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager - Fabrication (Projects & ME) to lead process planning, industrialization, and robotic automation for chassis and frame fabrication lines.

You will implement advanced welding techniques, PFMEAs, PPAP sign-offs, and cross-functional alignment to ensure high weld quality and safe, zero-defect mass production.

Qualifications

• Education as specified: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Automotive, or Mechatronics.
• Experience with fabrication process setups and NPD trials is essential.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 / ISO 3834 compliance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Formulate Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, WPS/PQR standards for manual and robotic lines.
• Program and commission robotic welding cells (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa) and optimize cycle times.
• Develop welding jigs, locators, gauges and SPMs with vendors.
• Perform mechanical testing and NDT to ensure weld integrity and quality.
• Lead NPD trials, ECN updates, APQP/PPAP sign-offs, and line capability (Cpk/Ppk).
• Drive VA/VE, scrap reduction, SMED, and SBP budget/capacity projections.

The Senior Engineer / Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager - Fabrication (Projects & ME) is responsible for the process planning, industrialization, robotic automation, and technical validation of chassis and frame fabrication lines. Sitting at the core of structural manufacturing engineering, this role leads the development of advanced joining processes (MIG, TIG, Resistance, Laser, and Friction Stir Welding), robotic programming (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa), WPS/PQR specifications, and metallurgical validation. The incumbent oversees the complete project lifecycle—from DFMEA/PFMEA design reviews and fixture/gauge procurement to Cpk/Ppk trials, PPAP approval, ergonomic line balancing (MOST), and SBP strategic capacity planning—ensuring high weld quality, safety compliance, and zero-defect mass production.

Key Responsibilities

• Process Planning & Weld Engineering: Formulate Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, WPS/PQR standards, and torch/parameter sequences across manual and robotic joining lines (MIG/TIG/Spot/Laser).
• Robotic Automation & Line Setup: Program and commission robotic welding cells (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa), integrate automated seam tracking, design ergonomic layouts, and optimize cycle times using MOST.
• Tooling, Jigs & Fixture Development: Conceptualize, procure, and prove out welding jigs, locators, Poka-Yoke clamping mechanisms, gauges, and Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) with vendors.
• Metallurgical Validation & Quality Control: Perform mechanical testing (tensile, bend, macro/micro, hardness) and NDT inspections to guarantee weld penetration, structural integrity, and IATF 16949 / ISO 3834 compliance.
• NPD, APQP & Industrialization: Lead cross-functional trials for New Product Development (NPD), execute ECN updates, drive APQP/PPAP sign-offs, and prove line capability (Cpk/Ppk) for mass production readiness.
• Operational Excellence & Cost Optimization: Drive VA/VE projects, scrap reduction, setup time optimization (SMED), OEE improvements, and long-term Strategic Business Plan (SBP) budget/capacity projections.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering.

Experience Requirements by Band:

• Senior Engineer: 3–6 years of hands-on experience independently managing fabrication process setups, NPD trials, and improvement projects.
• Deputy Manager: 9–12+ years of leadership experience driving SBP long-term roadmaps, mentoring engineering teams, upgrading plant technology, and projecting multi-year capital budgets.
