Job summary

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited in Chennai seeks a design engineer for suspension and chassis systems. You will perform system design calculations, component sizing, validation, and coordinate with CAE teams to ensure ride, handling, durability and safety targets.

The role requires a B.Tech/M.Tech in Automobile or Mechanical and 3–5 years of hands-on experience. You will work across prototyping, testing, supplier reviews, and ensure compliance with industry standards and program timelines.

• Perform system design calculations, component sizing, and validation.

• Lead root cause analysis and implement countermeasures.

Job description

• Design and development of Suspension & Chassis systems for passenger/commercial vehicles.
• Perform system design calculations, component sizing, and validation for suspension and chassis assemblies.
• Conduct vehicle dynamics studies and system-level optimization to meet ride, handling, durability, and safety targets.
• Carry out fastener selection and strength calculations as per design requirements and industry standards.
• Execute benchmarking activities and cascade vehicle-level targets into subsystem and component-level requirements.
• Prepare and maintain Design Verification Plan (DVP), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and related engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with CAE teams for structural analysis, durability simulations, design optimization, and test-correlation activities.
• Review and approve supplier and in-house engineering drawings in compliance with company standards.
• Drive technical feasibility reviews and manufacturing feasibility closure with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Material Management, Purchasing, and Vendor Development teams for prototype and production part development.
• Develop rig test plans and DVPs to establish product durability and performance confidence.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and resolution of development-stage issues and field failures using structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Identify and implement cost reduction and weight optimization initiatives without compromising quality, performance, and durability.
• Prepare and analyze tolerance stack-ups to ensure proper fit, function, manufacturability, and assembly robustness.
• Support prototype build activities, validation testing, and production implementation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable automotive standards, quality requirements, and program timelines.
