Job summary

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited in India is seeking an experienced automotive engineer to lead end‑to‑end vehicle development and prototype builds. You will coordinate cross‑functional teams to ensure design conformity, manufacturability and timely build readiness across engines, transmissions, chassis, and subsystems.

Qualifications

  • B.E / B.Tech or M.E / M.Tech degree.
  • 3–6 years of experience in automotive engineering.
  • Industry preferred qualifications as per role requirements.
  • Experience level: Senior Level.

Responsibilities

  • Amazing knowledge in the entire vehicle product life cycle development and management.
  • Hands‑on experience in developing and assembling a vehicle as per the design specifications.
  • Maintain the workshop fully operational, including shop infrastructure, budget/expenses planning, material readiness/storage and inventory.
  • Planning and monitoring of prototype build / rebuilds / repairs / retrofitments aligned with project plans and ensuring material readiness and targets.
  • Functional knowledge of various systems and subsystems of the vehicle (Engine, Transmission, Chassis, Suspension, BIW, HVAC, EandE, Trims, etc).
  • Coordinating with CFT to improve effectiveness in prototype build and quality deliverables.
  • Value engineering and cost optimisation through recycling of material and reutilisation of prototype vehicles for validation.
  • Able to identify the manufacturing feasibility of the product and ensure manufacturability, serviceability and proper tool accessibility of prototype vehicle in the prototype stage; provide feedback to R&D to resolve issues.
  • Responsible for preparing and verifying BOM.
  • Conceptualise the mechanical prototypes, mock‑ups, static bucks through reverse engineering for basic design finalisation and ongoing improvement.
  • Establish quality standards for prototype vehicle level quality (MQW, MPDS, APQP, safety and environmental standards) at prototype shop.
  • Ensure documentation, reporting and information regarding the build progress to seniors/management during project reviews.
  • Prepare and monitor the proto build timing plans, build matrix, build control plans and buy‑off check sheets, summaries and analysis.
  • Work out and monitor durability failures for repairing time, serviceability effectiveness and cost through statistical methods.
  • Experience in benchmarking competitor vehicles and feedback on system weights, serviceability, packaging, ride and handling, NVH, performance, functionality.
  • Contribute in design review, design failure mode effect analysis (DFMEA) and give improvements at design stage.
  • Contribute in DMU digital mock‑up unit and layout study for FTG plans.
