Job summary

Nikhil Constructiongroup in India is seeking a Senior Highway Designer to lead design leadership and project execution across multiple disciplines. You will manage geometric design, drainage, approvals, and tender preparation for highway projects in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or MX Road/OpenRoads and strong knowledge of IRC/MoRTH standards are essential, as is experience mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients and authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's preferred in Transportation/Highways.
• 5-10+ years of progressive experience in highway/expressway design with delivery track record.
• Advanced proficiency in highway design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD or MX Road/OpenRoads.
• Strong knowledge of Indian design codes and standards (IRC, MoRTH, BIS/IS).
• Experience leading design activities across multiple disciplines and mentoring teams.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication for client presentations.

Responsibilities

• Geometric Design: lead optimization of horizontal/vertical alignments, cross-sections, junctions, and service roads.
• Junction & Intersection Design: plan at-grade junctions, roundabouts, signals per IRC/MoRTH.
• Drainage & Road Safety: size drains/culverts, ensure sight distance, super-elevation per IRC specs.
• Digital Delivery & Documentation: create plan-profile-cross-section drawings, 3D models, BOQ; manage data in CDEs.
• Approvals & Coordination: engage MoRTH/NHAI/PWD/MSRDC; respond to RFIs; coordinate teams.
• Tender & Estimate Preparation: develop BOQs and cost estimates using CPWD/MoRTH SoR/DSR; prepare tender docs.
• Mentorship & QA/QC: review junior engineers' work; enforce standards; improve quality and reduce rework.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

As a Senior Highway Designer, you will take ownership of design leadership and project execution, including:

• Geometric Design: Lead the preparation and optimization of horizontal & vertical alignments, typical cross-sections, junctions/interchanges, service roads, access control, and median & shoulder treatments in accordance with IRC and MoRTH standards.
• Junction & Intersection Design: Design at-grade junctions, roundabouts, signalized intersections, channelization, pedestrian/cycle facilities, and grade-separated interchanges following IRC and MoRTH guidelines.
• Drainage & Road Safety: Size and design road-side drains and culverts (at a concept level), ensure sight distance, super-elevation, transitions, and roadside safety appurtenances per IRC:SP-73/84/88.
• Digital Delivery & Documentation: Create plan-profile-cross-section drawings, 3D surface models, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ); manage design data, model coordination, and revisions using Common Data Environments (CDEs). Produce design reports, method statements, and design calculations aligned to ISO standards.
• Approvals & Coordination: Interface with clients and authorities (MoRTH/NHAI/PWD/MSRDC), respond to RFIs, secure approvals, and coordinate with various teams.
• Tender & Estimate Preparation: Develop BOQs, cost estimates using CPWD/State SoR/MoRTH SoR/DSR, and compile bid packages, technical specifications, and tender documents.
• Mentorship & QA/QC: Review the work of junior engineers and CAD technicians, enforce model/drawing standards, and mentor the team to improve quality and reduce rework.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Civil Engineering; Master's degree (M.E./M.Tech) in Transportation/Highways is preferred.
• Experience: 510+ years of progressive experience in highway/expressway design, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in highway design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD or MX Road/OpenRoads.
• Standards Knowledge: Strong command of Indian design codes and standards, including IRC, MoRTH Specifications, and BIS/IS.
• Leadership: Proven experience leading design activities across multiple disciplines and mentoring junior team members.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present to clients and stakeholders.
