Job summary

Alstef Group in Pune seeks an experienced Automation Engineer to design and implement PLC-based control systems for BHS operations, including conveyors, diverters and sorters. You will program Siemens S7 / TIA Portal and Allen-Bradley PLCs, and develop associated HMI/SCADA interfaces while coordinating with mechanical, electrical and software teams.

You will lead FAT/SAT, assist commissioning, and ensure safety standards compliance across airport projects and large-scale material handling

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Automation Engineering.
• 6-10+ years in industrial automation.
• Airport project experience highly preferred.
• Willingness to travel to project sites (domestic/international).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC-based control systems for BHS conveyors and sorters.
• Develop, test, and maintain PLC programs (Siemens / Allen-Bradley) and HMIs/SCADA interfaces.
• Configure field devices: sensors, encoders, VFDs, and safety systems.
• Interface LLC systems with High Level Control (HLC) and IT systems (WMS, SCADA, airport systems).
• Lead FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and commissioning activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and control issues during installation and operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards (SIL, interlocks, emergency stops).
• Optimize system performance, throughput, and reliability of BHS operations.
• Prepare and review technical documentation (FDS, DDS, IO lists, cause & effect, test cases).
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and site teams.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams for seamless project execution.
• Support maintenance teams with root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong expertise in PLC programming (Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley)
• Experience in BHS systems or large-scale material handling automation
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus)
• Understanding of control philosophy, interlocks, and safety PLCs
• Hands-on experience with commissioning and troubleshooting
• Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems (WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.)
• Ability to read electrical schematics and control panel designs
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and stakeholder management

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelors degree in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Automation Engineering
• 6-10+ years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in BHS or material handling systems
• Experience working in airport projects is highly preferred
• Willingness to travel and work at project sites (domestic/international)

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to airport systems integration
• Knowledge of cybersecurity in industrial automation
• Experience in retrofit/upgrade projects
• Familiarity with international standards (IEC, ISO, airport norms)
