Job summary
NPCI, National Payments Corporation of India, invites experienced engineers to design and develop Java Card payment applications and SDKs for secure platforms powering India's digital payment ecosystem, including secure element interactions and card personalization.
You will implement EMV, GlobalPlatform and ISO standards, build APIs for Secure Elements and mobile wallets, produce reference implementations and documentation, and collaborate with certification teams to ensure robust, scalable
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software development and Java Card payment applet experience.
- Proven EMV and GlobalPlatform knowledge.
- Familiarity with ISO 14443/7816/8583/9564 standards.
- Experience with debugging tools PyAPDU, GPShell, JCOP.
- Knowledge of PKI and certificate management.
- Experience with payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, Rupay).
Responsibilities
- Design and develop Java Card payment applications, SDKs, libraries, and developer tools for secure platforms.
- Build APIs for interaction with Secure Elements, Java Cards, and mobile wallets.
- Develop sample apps, reference implementations, and technical docs for SDK consumers.
- Implement EMV, GlobalPlatform, and ISO 7816/14443 compliant applications.
- Develop secure, optimized code with memory and performance considerations.
- Perform applet debugging, testing, and validation with standard tools.
- Work on secure key management and cryptographic operations.
- Collaborate with host, personalization, and certification teams.
- Analyze and resolve card-host transaction flow issues.
- Maintain technical docs and support production deployments.

- Design and develop Java-based applications, SDKs, libraries, and developer tools for smart card and secure payment platforms.
- Build APIs and frameworks for interaction with Secure Elements, Java Cards, and mobile wallets.
- Develop sample applications, reference implementations, and technical documentation for SDK consumers.
- Implement EMV, GlobalPlatform, and ISO 7816/14443 compliant applications.
- Develop secure and optimized code considering memory and performance constraints.
- Perform applet debugging, testing, and validation using industry-standard tools.
- Work on secure key management, cryptographic operations, and data protection.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including host system, personalization, and certification teams.
- Analyse and resolve issues in card-host interaction and transaction flows.
- Maintain technical documentation and support production deployments.
- 5+ years’ experience in software development and qualification of Java Card Payment Application
- Prior Experience to developed payment card applet with any SCHEME
- In depth knowledge of EMV standard and global platform standard.
- Programming experience in Java or Python
- Experience with card personalization tools like MULTOS, GPPro, Gemalto IDV or similar.
- Should possesses the functional knowledge of ISO 14443 / 7816 / 8583 / 9564. Experience with debugging tools like PyAPDU, GPShell, or JCOP tools.
- Strong knowledge of chip manufacturing industry is needed.
- Strong understanding of EMV standards, cryptographic algorithms (AES, RSA, ECC, PQC).
- Familiarity with HSM and secure element programming.
- Experience in card manufacturing industry.
- Experience in PKI and Certificate Management
- Collaborate with teams on certification processes (EMVCo, PCI DSS, etc.)
- Good to have EMV certifications. Soft Skills

- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or in a related field.
