Job summary

Carrerlift is seeking a backend engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend services powering Lokal's platform. You will own features end‑to‑end, from conception to deployment, with autonomy to decide the best tech choices.

You will work in a lean, self‑directed team on API development, database optimization, and infrastructure reliability to ensure smooth performance for millions of users. Prior experience with distributed systems and CI/CD is valued.

Qualifications

• Strong data structures, algorithms, and problem‑solving skills from real projects.
• Ability to decompose large problems into clear, solvable pieces.
• Deep familiarity with at least one programming language or stack and its trade‑offs.
• Hands‑on backend development with Python, Java, or JavaScript.
• Working knowledge of SQL/NoSQL database design and data modelling.
• Understanding of distributed systems, API design, and system optimization.
• Self‑directed, proactive, and able to work with minimal oversight.
• Curiosity about large‑scale systems and continuous learning.

What you'll work on

• Building and optimizing backend services using Python, Java, or JavaScript.
• Designing schemas and queries for both SQL and NoSQL databases to handle your system's data requirements.
• Creating efficient APIs and integrating third‑party services into the platform.

What we're looking for

• Familiarity with consumer tech, media platforms, or infrastructure decisions that shaped product direction.
• Direct involvement managing and scaling systems that handle real traffic and complexity.
• Experience with WebSockets or video streaming architectures and their challenges.
• Prior exposure to CI/CD tooling, containerization frameworks, and load‑balancing approaches.
