Experience

15+ years of SAP experience, with extensive experience in large-scale manufacturing and industrial SAP transformation programs, particularly SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA.

Role Overview

We are looking for a senior SAP S/4HANA Solution Architect with deep experience in SCM, Logistics and Manufacturing to support large-scale SAP transformation programs across multiple countries, plants and business units. The ideal candidate should have proven experience working in a complex manufacturing environment with a large SAP ECC footprint and be able to lead the transition to S/4HANA through Brownfield, Selective Data Transition (SDT) and Greenfield approaches, depending on the business and technology context. This is an architecture role requiring strong understanding of end-to-end manufacturing and logistics processes, existing ECC landscapes, S/4HANA simplification, global templates, plant operations, integrations and rollout complexities. The candidate should be comfortable challenging the current-state design and defining what should be retained, redesigned, standardised, retired or migrated as part of the S/4HANA transformation.

Key Responsibilities

1. S/4HANA Transformation Architecture

• Own the SCM and Logistics solution architecture for large-scale S/4HANA transformation programs.
• Assess complex SAP ECC landscapes and define the appropriate transformation path:
• Brownfield / System Conversion
• Selective Data Transition (SDT)
• Greenfield
• Hybrid transformation
• Evaluate existing business processes, customisations, interfaces, master data and historical data to determine the appropriate transition approach.
• Define the As-Is Transition S/4HANA Target State architecture.
• Identify processes and customisations that should be:
• Retained
• Redesigned
• Replaced by S/4HANA standard
• Retired
• Migrated selectively
• Drive S/4HANA simplification and standardisation while protecting critical manufacturing business capabilities.
• Define architecture principles for a long-term S/4HANA global landscape.

2. Brownfield & Selective Data Transition – Core Requirement

The candidate must have real project experience in Brownfield and/or SDT, rather than only theoretical knowledge.

• Lead SCM/Logistics architecture for ECC-to-S/4HANA Brownfield transformations.
• Assess the existing ECC solution and determine the impact of S/4HANA simplification items.
• Understand the implications of existing:
• Custom code
• Enhancements
• Z transactions
• Interfaces
• Batch jobs
• Reports
• Forms
• Master data
• Historical transactional data
• Work with business and technical teams to determine which processes should move unchanged and which require redesign.
• Define the Selective Data Transition strategy for organisational units, plants, company codes, materials, vendors, customers and transactional history.
• Understand the trade-offs between full historical data migration, selective historical migration and data archiving.
• Define transition scenarios for business units/plants that may have different starting points or different readiness levels.
• Support impact assessment of data and process dependencies across SCM, Manufacturing, Finance and Sales.
• Ensure the transition architecture supports phased migration and business continuity.

3. Manufacturing & Plant Logistics

Strong manufacturing-domain knowledge is essential. The architect should understand how SAP supports a plant-centric manufacturing operating model, including:

• Plant and storage-location structures
• Procurement and source determination
• MRP and supply planning
• Production planning
• Production orders
• Material staging
• Component consumption
• Goods receipt / goods issue
• Inventory management
• Batch and serialisation
• Subcontracting
• Intercompany procurement
• Stock transport orders

The candidate should understand the dependencies between Manufacturing, MM, SD, EWM, TM, QM, PP and Finance, rather than working within a single SAP module boundary.

4. Global Template & Rollout Architecture

• Define and govern the Global SAP Template / Core Model for SCM and Logistics.
• Establish what should be globally standardised versus locally configured.
• Lead architecture for rollout of the global template across multiple plants, countries and regions.
• Assess existing local SAP solutions against the global template.
• Define the fit-to-template / fit-to-standard approach.
• Identify localisation requirements without allowing unnecessary local customisation.
• Define rollout sequencing and dependencies across plants and countries.
• Support wave planning considering:
• Plant readiness
• Data readiness
• Business dependencies
• Integration dependencies
• Legacy system dependencies
• Manufacturing shutdown / cutover requirements
• Ensure lessons learned from each rollout are incorporated into subsequent waves.

5. End-to-End Supply Chain Architecture

Design and govern end-to-end processes across: Plan Source Make Store Deliver with particular focus on integration between:

• SAP S/4HANA
• MM / Procurement
• PP / Manufacturing
• SD / Order-to-Cash
• EWM / Warehouse
• TM / Transportation
• QM
• SAP IBP where applicable
• SAP Ariba / supplier ecosystem
• External manufacturing and logistics systems

The architect should be able to identify cross-process impacts, rather than designing individual processes in isolation.

6. SDT / Manufacturing Carve-Out & Transition Scenarios

Experience with complex transition scenarios is highly desirable, including:

• Plant migrations
• Company-code migrations
• Business-unit migrations
• Divestitures / acquisitions
• Carve-outs
• Historical data selection
• Partial migration of business processes
• Coexistence between legacy ECC and S/4HANA
• Temporary dual-system scenarios
• Phased regional migration

The architect should be able to define how business operations continue during the transition and how dependencies between legacy and target systems are managed.

7. Integration Architecture

Define end-to-end integration architecture between S/4HANA and the wider manufacturing ecosystem. Experience with:

• SAP BTP Integration Suite / CPI
• APIs
• IDocs
• Events
• EDI
• Middleware
• MES integration
• Warehouse systems
• Transportation systems
• Supplier platforms
• Legacy applications
• Plant-level applications
• Non-SAP manufacturing platforms

Particular emphasis should be placed on understanding plant-level integrations and shop-floor dependencies in a manufacturing environment.

8. Data & Migration Architecture

Work closely with Data Migration and SDT teams to define:

• Material master migration
• Business Partner migration
• Supplier/customer migration
• Plant and warehouse data
• Purchasing data
• BOMs and routings
• Production-related master data
• Batch and serial data
• Inventory balances
• Open purchasing documents
• Open sales documents
• Open production orders
• Historical transactional data
• Data retention and archiving strategy

Ensure that migration decisions are aligned with the S/4HANA target process and architecture, rather than treating migration as a standalone technical activity.

9. Architecture Governance

• Lead solution-design workshops with business, SAP functional, technical and enterprise architecture teams.
• Review solution designs across SCM and Logistics.
• Drive architecture decisions and document key design principles.
• Identify cross-functional dependencies and architecture risks.
• Challenge unnecessary customisation.
• Ensure alignment with SAP clean-core principles.
• Govern deviations from the global template.
• Present architecture decisions to senior business and IT stakeholders.

Must Have

• 15+ years of SAP experience.
• Significant experience in SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.

• Proven experience in SAP ECC to S/4HANA Brownfield transformation.

• Experience in global template and localisation governance.

An ideal candidate would have worked on large manufacturing SAP landscapes similar to global automotive, industrial or engineering organisations, with: ECC S/4HANA Transformation + Brownfield / SDT + Manufacturing + SCM/Logistics + Global Template + Multi-country Rollouts and should be capable of taking ownership from current-state assessment through target architecture, transition strategy, rollout design and execution governance.
