Job Description Summary
Position Summary
Are you a seasoned coding professional with a passion for teaching and helping others succeed? ModMed is looking for an RCM Coding Trainer to empower our Center of Excellence (COE) Coding team.
In this newly created role, you will be the driving force behind developing new coders and upskilling tenured team members. By building engaging, effective training programs and bridging the gap between foundational knowledge and advanced execution, you will directly influence quality, efficiency, and clinical workflow success across multiple specialties.
What You’ll Do (Primary Responsibilities)
- Empower & Develop Coders: Lead vertical-specific coding and denial management training programs designed to develop new and existing coders into well-rounded, specialty-focused experts.
- Build & Innovate Curriculum: Design, implement, and continually improve engaging, outcome-focused training materials and programs with a core focus on denial coding management.
- Drive Process Improvement: Assist with implementing new operational workflows, policies, and standard operating procedures across the coding team to drive consistency and accuracy.
- Collaborate Across Borders: Work closely with US-based internal teams and cross-country stakeholders to assess, evaluate, and fulfill evolving coding education needs.
- Analyze Trends & Solve Complex Problems: Evaluate coding quality trends, client assignments, and operational data to pinpoint specific training opportunities and propose proactive education plans.
Minimum Requirements
What You Bring to the Table (Qualifications)
- Certifications: Active Certified Coder credential from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, COC, CCS, or CCS-P is required).
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a surgical coder.
- Minimum 3 years of core experience dedicated to denial coding review and management.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-specialty coding, including surgical procedures across Orthopedics, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, and Dermatology, as well as Inpatient/Outpatient Evaluation & Management (E/M).
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of US healthcare standards, payer guidelines, CARC/RARC, NCCI edits, LCDs, and bundling principles.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Science, Anatomy, or a related field (e.g., B.Sc., M.Sc., B.Pharma).
- Communication & Mentorship: Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, with a natural ability to mentor, engage, and inspire individuals at varying stages of their coding careers.
- Direct experience collaborating with US-based healthcare or operational teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior hands-on experience with ModMed's EMA® electronic health record system or Practice Management (PM) software.
