Job summary

ABB in India seeks a senior R&D manager to lead a team of testing and certification engineers, ensuring validation and qualification of LV switchgear in line with IS/IEC and global standards.

You will coordinate certification activities with BIS, CPRI, UL and other bodies, drive process improvements, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, electromechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
• 12–15 years of relevant experience in testing, validation, qualification, and certification of electrical products.
• Experience with LV switchgear products and certification agencies (BIS, CPRI, ERDA, DEKRA, UL).
• Strong leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the R&D testing and certification team to meet targets and KPIs.
• Develop test strategies, plans, qualification programs, and schedules with regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate BIS, CPRI, ERDA, DEKRA, UL and other certification activities with cross-functional teams.
• Oversee root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement in testing efficiency.
• Support cost optimization, product quality, and reliability improvements through leadership.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, leads a team of Research and Development (R&D) employees and support them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. Coaches and develops the team. Help manage technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property (IP).

The work model for the role is:

The role will support for the ABB India Ltd for Electrification Smart Buildings Business to be based at Nelamangala, BANGALORE, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Conduct testing, validation, and qualification of low-voltage switchgear products as per IS, IEC, and international standards, including prototype, design verification, and validation testing.
• Develop test strategies, plans, qualification programs, and schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory and certification requirements.
• Coordinate BIS, CPRI, ERDA, DEKRA, UL, and other certification activities, while collaborating with Product Management, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
• Oversee root cause analysis, corrective actions, continuous improvement, and testing efficiency, supported by KPIs, dashboards, and certification tracking systems.
• Lead and mentor the testing and certification engineering team, while supporting cost optimization, value engineering, product quality, and reliability improvements.

Qualifications for the role:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, Electromechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
• 12–15 years of relevant experience in testing, validation, qualification, and certification of electrical products.
• Solid practical experience with LV switchgear products, including MCBs, RCCBs, RCBOs, MCCBs, and Distribution Boards.
• Practical experience working with accredited testing laboratories and certification agencies such as BIS, CPRI, ERDA, DEKRA, and UL.
• Extensive knowledge of IS/IEC standards, regulatory requirements, product compliance, testing methodologies, and certification processes.
• Demonstrated experience in technical team leadership, project management, stakeholder management, and execution of multiple projects within challenging timelines.
• Advanced abilities in analysis, problem solving, communication, and decision making, supported by a focus on quality, compliance, innovation, and process improvement.
