Job summary

ABB India seeks an experienced R&D Team Lead for Low Voltage switchgear in Nelamangala, Bengaluru. You will oversee design, development, validation, and lifecycle management, providing technical and people leadership to a team of engineers while aligning with global cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities include managing end-to-end development, project plans, and stakeholder relationships, with a focus on cost optimization and innovative roadmaps to ensure on-time delivery and certification

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
• 12-18 years of experience in product development and R&D.
• LV switchgear knowledge including MCBs, RCCBs, RCBOs, distribution boards and switch disconnectors.
• Proficiency with Creo, Windchill, and PLM/PDM; testing, validation and certification know-how.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end LV switchgear product development from concept to commercialization.
• Lead and mentor R&D engineers and designers, driving technical capability and performance.
• Manage project plans, resources, risks, budgets, and milestones.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, we are looking for an experienced and skilled R&D Team Lead to oversee the design, development, validation, and lifecycle management of Low Voltage Switchgear products. The selected candidate will provide technical and people leadership to a team of engineers, lead innovation, ensure project execution, and collaborate with global cross-functional teams.

The role will support for the ABB India Ltd for Electrification Smart Buildings Business to be based at Nelamangala, BANGALORE, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Manage end-to-end development of LV switchgear products from concept to commercialization, ensuring timely delivery, quality, validation, and certification.
• Manage R&D project plans, resources, risks, budgets, and milestones while ensuring effective engineering change and product lifecycle management.
• Lead and mentor R&D engineers and designers, building technical capabilities and improving strong team performance.
• Implement cost reduction, value engineering, benchmarking, innovation, and technology roadmaps to enhance product competitiveness.
• Manage customer and stakeholder relationships while delivering measurable outcomes in on-time project execution, product quality, certification, cost optimization, and innovation.

Qualifications for the role:

• Bachelors degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with 1218 years of experience in product development and R&D.
• Extensive experience in LV switchgear product development, including MCBs, RCCBs, RCBOs, Distribution Boards, and Switch Disconnectors.
• Practical knowledge of Creo, Windchill, PLM/PDM systems, product testing, validation, certification, and value engineering.
• Effective project management, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex product development programs.
• Demonstrated experience in people leadership, team development, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Exposure to global R&D projects and international standards/certifications, including IEC, UL, and BIS.
• Experience in Lean Product Development, innovation, strategic thinking, customer focus, and effective execution skills with a results-oriented approach.
