Job summary

ABB's Nashik unit invites applications for a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of mechanical parts and assemblies, including sheet-metal, castings, and molded plastics, using SolidWorks or Creo.

You will work in an R&D context, prototype, test, interpret drawings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, reliable solutions for medium voltage switchgear applications.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (full-time).
• 4 to 8 years of experience in design and development of mechanical parts and assemblies (sheet-metal, castings, machined parts, plastics).
• Hands-on prototyping, testing, and interpreting technical drawings.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo 3D CAD software.
• Strong knowledge of medium voltage switchgear (AIS/GIS/RMU).
• Good verbal and written communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Work as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.
• Perform tasks in mechanics, electronics, thermal, and software from concept to design, implementation, testing, integration, and maintenance.
• Understand and apply processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural constraints.
• Drive targets for quality, time, scope, cost and address risks.

This Position reports to: R&D Team Lead

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the Electrification business in Distribution Solution division at Nashik, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.
• Performing various tasks in the assigned area (e.g., mechanics, electronics, thermal, software), from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.
• Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
• Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks.

Qualifications For The Role

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (should be full-time)
• Minimum 4 to 8 years of experience in Design and Development of Mechanical Parts and Assemblies (Sheet-Metal components, Casted & Machined Metal parts and Molded Plastic parts)
• Hands-on experience in prototyping, type testing, and interpreting technical drawings.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo 3D CAD software.
• Strong technical knowledge of Medium Voltage Switchgear (AIS / GIS / RMU).
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English
