Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 7+ years in test/quality management and/or release/upgrade coordination on enterprise platforms.
• Proven ownership of upgrade/release processes with multiple parties (internal IT, business units, and an external vendor).
• Regression test management – strategy, coverage, execution steering, defect management, and quality sign-off.
• Test environment & execution planning – coordinating what is tested where, when, and by whom across teams and environments.
• Test automation – defining a strategy and working with automation frameworks (e.g. UI automation: Selenium, Playwright, or a vendor framework); able to evaluate build vs. buy.
• Business analysis – eliciting/understanding requirements and assessing change impact on users and processes.
• Stakeholder & vendor coordination – aligning many parties and holding a vendor accountable to commitments.
• ALM / test tooling – hands-on with an ALM/test-management tool (Codebeamer strongly preferred; or Polarion, JIRA/Xray, Azure DevOps Test Plans, qTest).
• Traceability mindset – requirements to configurations to tests to results.
• Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills – clear, evidence-based reporting to technical and business audiences.
• Team leadership – leading a small quality/test team while staying hands-on.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.

About the UNIT/ Unit Overview

ALM – Codebeamer Platform. Codebeamer (PTC) is BMW's enterprise-wide Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) system, used by thousands of users across multiple business units. It is a purchased product whose standard releases must be assured and rolled out several times a year; the platform is currently hybrid and migrating to cloud (application to Azure, Oracle database to OCI).

What awaits you/ Job Profile

We are looking for a strong Quality & Release Lead to own the upgrade/release process and the test and quality management for the Codebeamer Platform at BMW. Codebeamer is a purchased product, and PTC ships standard releases that we must assure and roll out several times a year. Each upgrade is a multi-party undertaking across BMW IT, our business units, and PTC.

You design, align, and accompany the upgrade process end to end – from concept to production rollout – and you own the test evidence on which every go/no-go decision rests. Your scope is continuous: upgrade and release orchestration (including which environment is tested when and by whom), regression test management and quality sign-off, the separate PTC workstream on which BMW‑specific regression tests PTC can absorb, and a test‑automation strategy (evaluating tooling such as PTC's UI test framework and where AI can accelerate).

You lead the quality team and act as the quality and release anchor for the platform. This is not a purely steering role: you lead the team and stay hands‑on on the key test and release topics. You also help assure the platform through its cloud migration.
Support model: 08:00–17:00, Mon-Fri (CET/CEST),
On-Call support after working hours (if required)

What should you bring along

• Upgrade / Release Process Orchestration – design, align, and accompany the end-to-end upgrade for PTC standard releases; coordinate BMW IT, business units, and PTC; provide the quality go/no-go recommendation.
• Test Environment & Execution Coordination – plan which environment is tested when and by whom; sequence regression, integration, and acceptance testing across teams.
• Regression Test Management & Quality Sign-off – own the regression strategy; steer execution (manual and automated); manage defect triage; provide a documented sign-off.
• Test Automation Strategy – define the strategy; evaluate tooling (including PTC's framework for automated UI tests); explore where AI can accelerate test creation and maintenance.
• PTC Vendor Collaboration – drive the separate workstream on which BMW‑specific regression tests PTC can absorb into their own suite; track commitments and vendor accountability.
• Business Analysis & Change Impact – understand and translate the functional impact of a release; ensure traceability between requirements/configurations and test coverage.
• Go-Live Gateway – review and understand what and how business units tested; expand the test/quality acceptance criteria; form a joint platform position with the Operational and Platform Engineering Leads.
• Quality Team Leadership – lead, mentor, and grow the quality team while staying hands‑on on key test/release topics.
• Documentation & Knowledge Management – maintain the test strategy, regression catalogue, upgrade runbooks, and quality records; ensure traceability and knowledge transfer.

Must have technical skill

• Hands‑on Codebeamer experience – especially its test management module and upgrade experience.
• PTC product experience and vendor collaboration (test handover, supported configurations, roadmap).
• AI in testing – using AI/GenAI to generate or maintain tests, analyse coverage, or triage defects.
• CI/CD integration of tests – running automated regression in pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
• ISTQB (Foundation/Advanced – Test Manager) or comparable certification.
• Knowledge of BMW IT processes and the system landscape.
• Experience testing through a cloud migration (on‑premise to Azure/OCI) and across hybrid environments.
• Knowledge of automotive compliance & standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 27001, TISAX) and audit‑grade test evidence.
• Experience with requirements/ALM domains (traceability, baselining, variants).
• Familiarity with agile delivery (Scrum/SAFe) in distributed Germany–India setups.
