Job summary

BMW TechWorks India Private Limited in Pune is seeking a Proxy Product Owner to represent the Munich Product Owner for the Codebeamer Platform. You will bridge business units with development and operations, refining and prioritizing the backlog and ensuring coherent delivery across teams.

You will own day-to-day backlog, manage requirements, and drive a smooth sprint flow while coordinating a cross-functional delivery in a hybrid cloud transformation environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Informatics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years in product ownership, business analysis, requirements engineering, or a proxy/associate product owner role.
• Hands-on backlog management and writing user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
• Strong requirements elicitation and stakeholder management with both technical and business audiences.
• Able to make pragmatic product decisions and trade-offs within an agreed mandate.
• Technical fluency to engage credibly with development and operations on an enterprise platform (APIs, integrations, environments, releases).
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills in a distributed setup across time zones.
• Experience with an ALM/issue-tracking tool (Codebeamer strongly preferred; or JIRA, Polarion, Azure DevOps).
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.

What awaits you/ Job Profile

We are looking for a Proxy Product Owner to represent the Product Owner for the Codebeamer Platform at BMW and act as the bridge between the business units, the development and operations teams in India, and the Product Owner in Munich. You translate platform vision and stakeholder needs into a well-prioritized, well-understood backlog and make sure the right things get built and delivered.

You own the backlog day to day: refining and prioritizing, clarifying requirements, accepting work, and keeping a coherent line from business need to delivered increment across development, operations, and quality. You are the on-site decision-anchor in India for the platform, closely aligned with the Munich Product Owner.

Special (ramp-up phase): in addition to the steady Proxy Product Owner role, this position carries a time-boxed Transition Management responsibility while the Hub India delivery is being built up and platform responsibility is being established locally. This is an on-top focus during ramp-up – it winds down once the transition is complete, while the Proxy Product Owner role continues.

What should you bring along

• Backlog Ownership – build, refine, and prioritize the product backlog; write clear user stories with acceptance criteria; keep a transparent, value-ordered backlog.
• Requirements & Stakeholder Management – elicit, analyse, and translate business-unit needs into actionable work; manage expectations across many stakeholders.
• Proxy for the Product Owner – represent the Munich Product Owner on-site in India; take day-to-day product decisions within the agreed mandate and elevate the rest.
• Sprint & Delivery Flow – drive refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and acceptance; ensure a steady flow of well-understood, ready work to the teams.
• Cross-Team Coordination – align development, operations, and quality so backlog items are delivered end to end, not just built.
• Prioritization & Trade-offs – balance new features, technical debt, operational needs, and compliance; make and communicate transparent trade-offs.
• Stakeholder Communication – keep business units, the Product Owner, and the teams aligned through clear, regular communication across time zones.
• Transition Management (time-boxed, ramp-up phase) – coordinate the build-up of ZA Hub India delivery and the establishment of local platform responsibility; drive knowledge transfer from Munich/existing parties; track transition milestones and risks; hand over into the steady operating model and wind this stream down once complete.

Must have technical skill

• Hands-on Codebeamer experience (configuration awareness, workflows, trackers, reporting).
• Experience as a proxy/associate PO bridging an onshore PO and an offshore delivery team.
• Domain knowledge in ALM/PLM and requirements management in an automotive context.
• Knowledge of BMW IT processes and the system landscape.
• Experience operating in a hybrid/cloud transformation (Azure/OCI).
• Certifications – CSPO/PSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or IREB (requirements engineering).
• Familiarity with SAFe or scaled-agile delivery in distributed Germany–India setups.
• Transition / migration experience – building up an offshore delivery capability and establishing local responsibility (knowledge transfer, ramp-up, hand-over to a steady operating model).
• Experience coordinating across development, operations, and quality for end-to-end delivery.
