QA Automation Engineer
The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining reliable automated test suites, performing API and database validations, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams in an Agile environment to deliver high‑quality releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enhance modular automation frameworks (Page Object Model, fixtures, custom utilities, reusable libraries).
- Create robust locators/selectors and handle complex UI scenarios (frames/iframes, nested components, Shadow DOM).
- Perform API testing for RESTful services (request/response validations, status codes, headers, payload verification) and integrate with UI flows where required.
- Perform database validations using SQL (joins, subqueries) to verify backend data integrity.
- Analyze failures using Playwright debugging capabilities (trace viewer, logs, screenshots) and improve test stability using retries and hooks.
- Identify gaps in test coverage and contribute to continuous improvement of automation strategy and quality metrics.
- Integrate automated suites with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) and support scheduled/triggered test runs with reporting.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (release planning, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, reviews, retrospectives) and provide accurate estimates for testing/automation work.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, and other QA engineers to clarify requirements, triage defects, and ensure timely resolution.
- Create and maintain test artifacts such as test plans, test cases, test scripts, and execution reports; log and track defects in JIRA.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in QA (manual and automation) for web applications; experience with Windows‑based applications is a plus.
- Solid understanding of OOP concepts and their application in automation framework design.
- Experience working with BDD‑style frameworks and writing clear, maintainable test scenarios.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD practices and test execution via Jenkins.
- Proficiency with Git‑based version control (e.g., GitHub) and pull request workflows.
- Experience with defect tracking and test management using JIRA.
- Good understanding of STLC/SDLC, defect life cycle, and testing types (smoke, sanity, regression, integration, UAT, system testing).
- Ability to write and execute SQL queries for validations (joins, subqueries).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work independently in fast‑paced Agile teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with data‑driven testing using external datasets (JSON, CSV, Excel) and test parameterization.
- Hands‑on experience with network interception/mocking and validations for dynamic web applications.
- Familiarity with Postman and/or Rest Assured for API testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience migrating legacy Selenium suites/frameworks to Playwright.
- Exposure to e‑commerce or banking domains and high‑availability, customer‑facing applications.
- Automated validations.
- End‑to‑end API + UI workflow testing.
- Enterprise workflow automation testing.
- Exposure to RPA/automation‑based validation.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ownership mindset and ability to drive testing tasks to closure.
- Effective communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement approach to quality, automation, and engineering practices.
