Job summary

Meka Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Purchase Head based in Worli, Mumbai to lead the complete procurement function for marine and infrastructure projects. Qualifications

  • 15-25 years of experience in Purchase/Procurement, with substantial marine industry exposure.
  • Experience in procurement for dredgers, vessels, marine machinery and project requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of marine equipment, machinery, spares and technical procurement.
  • Mumbai-based or willing to work from Worli, Mumbai.

  • Lead and manage the complete Purchase & Procurement function for marine and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project budgets and timelines.
  • Handle procurement of marine machinery, equipment, spares, consumables, MRO items and related requirements.
  • Source and develop reliable vendors and suppliers for marine-specific equipment and materials.
  • Negotiate annual rate contracts, framework agreements and long-term vendor arrangements.
  • Review PRs, technical specs, RFQs, quotations, and POs; ensure timely procurement and delivery.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Head with strong experience in the Marine / Dredging / Shipyard / Offshore / Marine Infrastructure industry to lead and manage the complete procurement function. The candidate will be responsible for strategic sourcing, vendor development, commercial negotiations, procurement planning, cost optimization, and timely availability of materials, equipment, and services for marine projects.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the complete Purchase & Procurement function for marine and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project requirements, budgets, timelines, and business objectives.
  • Handle procurement of marine machinery, equipment, spares, consumables, technical materials, MRO items, and project-related requirements.
  • Source and develop reliable vendors and suppliers for marine-specific equipment and materials.
  • Identify new vendors, evaluate their capabilities, negotiate commercial terms, and establish long-term supplier relationships.
  • Conduct price negotiations, rate comparisons, commercial evaluations, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Review Purchase Requisitions, technical specifications, RFQs, quotations, comparative statements, Purchase Orders and Work Orders.
  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to project sites without affecting project schedules.
  • Coordinate closely with Projects, Engineering, Stores, Accounts, Operations and Site Teams to understand requirements and ensure timely fulfilment.
  • Manage procurement for marine vessels, dredgers, barges, tugboats, pumps, engines, mechanical/electrical equipment, spare parts and other marine-related requirements.
  • Negotiate annual rate contracts, framework agreements, AMC/service contracts and long-term vendor arrangements wherever applicable.
  • Monitor vendor performance with respect to quality, cost, delivery timelines and service levels.
  • Develop and maintain a strong vendor database and periodically evaluate vendor performance.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with the company's procurement policies and approval processes.
  • Track open Purchase Orders, pending deliveries and critical procurement items and take corrective action wherever required.
  • Work closely with Stores and Project Teams for material planning, inventory requirements and timely replenishment.
  • Analyse procurement spend and identify opportunities for cost reduction, standardisation and process improvement.
  • Resolve vendor-related issues including delays, quality concerns, commercial disputes and delivery challenges.
  • Lead, guide and monitor the Purchase team and ensure effective delegation and performance management.
  • Prepare and present MIS reports, procurement status, cost analysis, savings reports, vendor performance reports and pending PO reports to management.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable company policies, contractual requirements and internal audit standards.
  • Establish and continuously improve procurement SOPs, processes, controls and systems.
  • Support management in strategic procurement decisions and contribute to overall project cost optimisation.

Candidate Profile
  • Graduate / Postgraduate in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Commerce or a related field.
  • 15 - 25 years of overall experience in Purchase/Procurement, with substantial experience specifically in the Marine / Dredging / Shipyard / Offshore / Marine Infrastructure industry.
  • Candidates with experience in procurement for dredgers, vessels, barges, tugboats, marine machinery and marine project requirements will be preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of marine equipment, machinery, spares and technical procurement.
  • Proven experience in handling vendors, negotiations, procurement teams and high-value purchases.
  • Comfortable coordinating with multiple departments and project sites.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, negotiation and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Candidate must be Mumbai-based / willing to work from Worli, Mumbai.
