Job summary

Rashtriya Metal Industries Limited is seeking an experienced AGM – Purchase to lead the plant's procurement function at Sarigam, Gujarat. You will craft procurement strategies, identify and develop suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage spend to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.

The role requires 12–18 years in Purchase/Procurement in manufacturing, with strong negotiation, vendor management, and SAP/Excel skills.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgy or Production Engineering.
• MBA/PGDM in Materials Management, Supply Chain Management or Procurement is an added advantage.
• 12–18 years of experience in Purchase/Procurement, preferably in manufacturing industries.
• Strong knowledge of engineering and maintenance spares, plant utilities, and technical specifications.
• Working knowledge of SAP system, MS Excel - Advanced, procurement MIS and vendor management systems.

Job description

The AGM – Purchase will be responsible for managing and leading the plant's procurement function, ensuring the timely availability of engineering and maintenance spares, consumables, services and other operational requirements at optimum cost and quality.

The role involves developing procurement strategies, supplier identification and development, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, purchase planning, contract management, inventory coordination, vendor performance monitoring and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable statutory requirements.

The position will work closely with Production, Melting & Casting, Rolling, Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Stores, Finance and other departments to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.

Job Location: Sarigam Plant, Gujarat

Preference for candidates from Copper/Copper Alloy, Non-Ferrous Metals, Aluminium, Steel, Metal Processing, Engineering, Foundry or other process-manufacturing industries.

Develop and implement plant procurement strategies aligned with production plans, maintenance schedules, inventory norms and business objectives. Ensure timely procurement of spares, consumables, tools, equipment and services.

Manage procurement of mechanical and electrical spares, rolling mill components, furnace spares, EOT crane parts, hydraulic and pneumatic components, bearings, motors, pumps, utilities spares and other maintenance requirements.

Identify, evaluate, empanel and develop reliable suppliers.

Conduct supplier assessments and coordinate technical evaluations with user departments. Maintain an approved supplier database and develop alternate sources for critical materials.

Lead price negotiations, finalize commercial terms, evaluate quotations and achieve cost savings without compromising quality, safety or delivery. Analyse price trends, total cost of ownership and opportunities for localization and alternate sourcing.

Review purchase requisitions, verify specifications and approvals, issue purchase orders within the delegated authority and ensure compliance with the purchase approval matrix. Monitor order status and follow up on pending deliveries.

Negotiate and manage contracts for plant services, equipment maintenance, fabrication, repairs,

transportation and other outsourced requirements, in coordination with the concerned departments. Ensure clarity on scope, rates, service levels, payment terms and

contractual obligations.

Monitor supplier performance in terms of cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness and service. Resolve supply related issues, coordinate corrective actions and review vendor performance periodically.

Coordinate with Stores and user departments to maintain appropriate inventory levels, avoid stock-outs and reduce excess or non-moving inventory. Support critical spare identification, minimum/maximum stock levels and procurement planning.

Ensure procurement is based on approved specifications, drawings, quality standards and technical requirements. Coordinate with QA, Maintenance and user departments for material inspection, rejection handling, replacement and supplier corrective action.

Ensure accurate purchase records in the SAP system. Prepare MIS on procurement spend, cost savings, pending purchase orders, supplier performance, delivery delays, emergency purchases and budget utilization.

Prepare and monitor the purchase budget in coordination with Finance and user departments. Ensure adherence to approved budgets, payment terms, commercial controls and procurement delegation of authority.

Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, approval procedures, audit requirements, applicable legal and statutory requirements, and documentation standards. Maintain transparent procurement practices and proper records for internal and external audits.

Lead, guide and develop the plant Purchase team. Define responsibilities, monitor performance, improve procurement processes and build a culture of accountability, integrity and continuous improvement.

B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgy or Production Engineering. An MBA/PGDM in Materials Management, Supply Chain Management or Procurement will be an added advantage.

Approximately 12–18 years of experience in Purchase/Procurement, preferably in manufacturing

industries, with significant experience managing plant procurement.

Strong understanding of engineering and maintenance spares, plant utilities, industrial consumables, technical specifications.

Strong skills in price analysis, negotiation, contract management, cost control, supplier agreements and procurement budgeting.

Working knowledge of SAP system, MS Excel - Advance, procurement MIS and vendor management systems.
