Job summary

Valmet Pune, India is seeking a Purchase Engineer to secure timely materials, parts, and services for manufacturing and projects. You will partner with production, engineering, and suppliers to plan purchases, evaluate quotes, and drive cost‑effective sourcing decisions.

You will analyze supplier performance, manage vendor development, and ensure compliance with purchasing processes while coordinating with quality, finance, stores, and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical/production/industrial engineering.
• 7-8 years procurement experience in manufacturing or project environments.
• Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, tolerances, fabrication and welding.
• Experience in vendor development, negotiations, ERP, and cost optimization.
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication sourcing; international sourcing a plus.

Join us as a Purchase Engineer and play a key role in ensuring the timely availability of materials, components, and services that keep manufacturing and project operations moving forward. In this position, you will work closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and project teams to plan purchases, optimize supplier performance, and drive cost‑effective sourcing decisions. You'll have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise, influence procurement outcomes, and contribute directly to project success and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• You will plan and execute the timely purchase of materials, equipment, components, and services by partnering with production, engineering, and project teams to support production plans and project schedules.
• You will prepare RFQs, evaluate supplier quotations, and conduct techno‑commercial assessments to secure the best combination of quality, cost, and delivery.
• You will build strong supplier relationships, identify and develop new vendors, negotiate commercial terms, and support long‑term sourcing strategies.
• You will analyze procurement and supplier performance against key indicators, prepare reports for management, and recommend improvements to purchasing effectiveness.
• You will ensure compliance with procurement processes, maintain accurate purchasing documentation, and coordinate with quality, finance, stores, and project stakeholders to resolve technical and commercial issues.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Production Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
• 7-8 years of experience in procurement within manufacturing or project‑based environments.
• Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, fabrication and machining tolerances, manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, forming, bending, and welding, and engineering components including fasteners, bearings, motors, and gearboxes.
• Experience in vendor development, supplier negotiations, ERP systems, procurement reporting, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication sourcing is essential, while exposure to international sourcing is considered an advantage.

Success in this role requires a strong combination of technical purchasing expertise, supplier management capabilities, and analytical thinking. You must be able to understand technical specifications, evaluate suppliers effectively, negotiate commercially sound agreements, and continuously improve purchasing performance through data‑driven decision‑making. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across multiple stakeholders are essential to ensure materials are delivered on time and projects remain on track.
