Job summary

Valmet seeks a Project Engineering Manager for PEC PEx Project Management in Chennai, India. You will lead engineering activities, ensure on-time delivery, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders across the project lifecycle, from engineering through commissioning.

The role requires a relevant university degree and 12–15 years of experience in Pulp & Paper EPC projects, with strong leadership, budgeting, and English communication skills. Travel may be required.

• Provide input to project plans, supply plans, and procurement specifications.
• Coordinate with suppliers, authorities and customers on technical issues.

Project Engineering Manager – PEC PEx Project Management

Primary Location: Chennai, India

Valmet´s Pulp, Energy and Circularity business area provides technologies and solutions for pulp and energy production and biomass conversion. If yes, here is an exciting opportunity, as we are looking for ‘Project Engineering Manager, Project Management’, based in Chennai, India.

As ‘Project Engineering Manager, Project Management’, you are responsible for “project technical matters and on-time engineering activities, including project document control, in accordance with contract requirements as well as with company guidelines.”

You are responsible for:

• Sales support during proposal stage together with Project Manager / Sales Manager.
• Follow up and report on budget and progress to Project Manager.
• Ensure HSE is considered during engineering phase for the lifecycle of the project: engineering, delivery, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Responsible for ensuring fulfilment of contract technical requirements. Provide input to the time schedule, document delivery schedule, risk and opportunity analysis, project execution plan, supply plan, construction/installation plan and project budget, etc.
• Engineering coordination and schedule follow-up. Ensuring good communication between engineering disciplines and customer.
• Secure proper and cost aware engineering operations and decisions (including design reviews).
• Control/Follow up contractual document deliveries and distribution to customer and suppliers.
• Together with the Project Manager or MC Project Manager/Project Director monitor the internal delivery limits and the interface points between the Valmet scope of supply and the customer responsibility areas of the project.
• Technical support for purchasing, manufacturing, erection and commissioning.
• Responsible for co-ordinating and preparing of supply specifications according to procurement (supply) plan.
• Securing and approval initial engineering data (e.g. clients’ mill standards). Convey project specifics, e.g. project standards, define possible common documentation requirements and templates.
• Communicate applicable laws and regulations to participating parties.
• Coordinate and clarify common technical issues with external parties, such as suppliers, authorities and customer
• Collect and review project feedback for continuous improvement

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

• Qualification: Relevant University Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
• Experience: Typical minimum relevant experience required for this job 12-15 years. Preferably in Pulp & Paper Industry in Recovery island.
• Solid leadership and team management skills.
• Good influencing and interpersonal skills with ability to drive change.
• Good expertise and experience in EPC/EPS global projects execution in multinational and matrix organization.
• Financial mindset, contract and claim management skills.
• Effective communication and presentation skills in English.
• Travel according to business needs.
