Job summary

Siemens Energy India Limited is seeking a Senior Protection Engineer to lead end-to-end execution of 220 kV GIS/AIS substation projects, ensuring safe, profitable and on-time delivery in line with customer and EHS requirements.

You will test and commission numerical relays from major manufacturers, coordinate with operation teams, and prepare technical reports, ensuring compliance with standards and safety practices.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Relay Testing, Testing & Commissioning, and Operation & Maintenance of EHV substations.
• At least 2 years in a responsible position in the maintenance and operation of electrical substations or power plants.
• Hands-on testing and commissioning of numerical relays from Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, or equivalent manufacturers.
• Good knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, protection schemes, and substation automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end execution of 220 kV GIS/AIS substation projects, ensuring safe, profitable and on-time delivery in compliance with customer, contractual, quality and EHS requirements.
• Testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of numerical and conventional protection relays in EHV substations.
• Perform relay testing, coordination studies, relay setting verification, and protection system validation.
• Troubleshooting and analysis of protection system malfunctions, relay operations, and electrical faults.
• Maintenance and testing of protection panels, control panels, and related equipment.
• Conduct preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of protection and control systems.
• Testing and maintenance of CTs, PTs/CVTs, circuit breakers, transformers, and protection schemes.
• Analyzing fault records, event logs, relay indications and tripping incidents.
• Ensuring compliance with standards, procedures and customer requirements.
• Preparing technical reports, maintenance records, relay test reports, and root cause analyses.
• Coordinating with operation, maintenance and commissioning teams for planned shutdowns and restorations.
• Ensuring strict adherence to EHS requirements, PTW, LOTO and electrical safety procedures.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of numerical and conventional protection relays in EHV substations.
• Performing relay testing, relay coordination studies, relay setting verification, and protection system validation.
• Troubleshooting and analysis of protection system malfunctions, relay operations, and electrical faults.
• Maintenance and testing of protection panels, control panels, disturbance recorders, fault recorders, and annunciation systems.
• Conducting preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of protection and control systems.
• Testing and maintenance of CTs, PTs/CVTs, circuit breakers, power transformers, auxiliary transformers, and associated protection schemes.
• Analysis of fault records, event logs, relay indications, and tripping incidents.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable standards, operating procedures, and customer requirements.
• Preparation of technical reports, maintenance records, relay test reports, and root cause analysis reports.
• Coordination with operation, maintenance, and commissioning teams for planned shutdowns and restoration activities.
• Ensuring strict adherence to EHS requirements, PTW, LOTO, and electrical safety procedures.

What You Bring

• Minimum 6 years of experience in the field of Relay Testing, Testing & Commissioning, and Operation & Maintenance of EHV Substations and associated electrical equipment.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a responsible position in the maintenance and operation of electrical substations or power plants.
• Hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of numerical relays from Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, or equivalent manufacturers.
• Good knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, protection schemes, and substation automation systems.
