Job summary

Siemens Energy India is seeking a skilled Substation Relay Test Engineer to lead end-to-end execution of 220 kV GIS/AIS substation projects, ensuring safe, profitable and on-time delivery. You will test protection relays, coordinate commissioning, and verify protection schemes.

You should bring 6+ years of experience in relay testing and maintenance of EHV substations, with hands-on relay testing across Siemens/ABB/GE equipment, and strong knowledge of transmission and distribution systems.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Relay Testing, Testing & Commissioning, and Operation & Maintenance of EHV Substations.
• 2+ years in a responsible position in maintenance and operation of electrical substations or power plants.
• Hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of numerical relays from Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, or equivalent manufacturers.
• Good knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, protection schemes, and substation automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of protection relays in EHV substations.
• Perform relay testing, coordination studies, relay setting verification, and protection system validation.
• Troubleshoot and analyze protection system malfunctions, relay operations, and electrical faults.
• Maintain and test protection panels, control panels, disturbance recorders, fault recorders, and annunciation systems.
• Conduct preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of protection and control systems.
• Test and maintain CTs, PTs/CVTs, circuit breakers, power transformers, and associated protection schemes.
• Analyze fault records, event logs, relay indications, and tripping incidents.
• Ensure compliance with standards, procedures and customer requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, maintenance records, relay test reports, and root cause analyses.
• Coordinate with operation, maintenance, and commissioning teams for planned shutdowns and restorations.
• Adhere to EHS requirements, PTW, LOTO, and electrical safety procedures.

Job description

How You'll Make an Impact

• Testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of numerical and conventional protection relays in EHV substations.
• Performing relay testing, relay coordination studies, relay setting verification, and protection system validation.
• Troubleshooting and analysis of protection system malfunctions, relay operations, and electrical faults.
• Maintenance and testing of protection panels, control panels, disturbance recorders, fault recorders, and annunciation systems.

What You Bring

• Minimum 6 years of experience in the field of Relay Testing, Testing & Commissioning, and Operation & Maintenance of EHV Substations and associated electrical equipment.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a responsible position in the maintenance and operation of electrical substations or power plants.
• Hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of numerical relays from Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, or equivalent manufacturers.
• Good knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, protection schemes, and substation automation systems.
