Job summary

Job description

We are looking for a Project Manager to take full ownership of 12 major projects from work-order stage through planning, mobilisation, execution and final bill. This is a single-point accountability role: programme, manpower, machinery, subcontractors, materials, quality,

department liaison, billing and closure all sit with you. You will be based at the project site, with the corporate office at Kolkata for coordination and support.

Key responsibilities

Planning & mobilisation

• Study the tender/agreement, BOQ, drawings and specifications; prepare the construction methodology and baseline programme (bar chart / Primavera / MS Project).
• Prepare resource histograms manpower, plant and machinery, materials and the monthly/quarterly cash-flow and billing plan.
• Site layout, mobilisation, labour camp, utilities, statutory permissions and clearances.

Execution

• Day-to-day execution of earthwork, GSB/WMM, DBM/BC and bituminous works; RCC and prestressed structures piles, well/open foundations, piers, pier caps, girders, decks, box culverts, hume pipe culverts, underpasses (RUB/VUP/PUP), retaining and protection works.
• Programme control: monitor progress against baseline, identify slippage early and drive recovery plans.
• Deploy and manage plant batching plant, paver, WMM plant, rollers, excavators, cranes, piling rigs including productivity and breakdown control.
• Enforce quality per MoRTH / IRC / WB PWD specifications; oversee the field lab, cube and density testing, and close NCRs.
• Safety, traffic management and environmental compliance on site.

Coordination

• Liaison with the client department (Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Sub-Assistant Engineer), consultants and third-party inspection agencies.
• Coordinate with utility bodies, land/revenue authorities, police and local bodies for right-of-way, shifting and permissions.
• Manage subcontractors and petty contractors scope, rates, measurement, running payments and performance.
• Coordinate with the Kolkata office for procurement, accounts, statutory and machinery support.

Commercial, billing & documentation

• Joint measurement with the department; maintain the Measurement Book (MB) and level books.
• Prepare and submit RA bills; follow through the department to passing and payment; track deductions security deposit, TDS, labour cess, royalty.
• Raise and defend extra items, deviation statements, price escalation and EOT claims; correspondence on the contract.
• Cost control against the budget theoretical vs actual consumption of key materials, wastage, hire and idling.
• Maintain complete site records: DPR, materials received/consumed, labour muster, machine logs, test registers, drawings, photographs, correspondence file.
• Support the office on tender-stage rate build-up and site assessment for upcoming bids.

Requirements

Essential

• B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering (Diploma with strong, demonstrable experience will be considered).
• Minimum 10 years in civil construction, with at least 3–4 years as Project Manager / Project In-charge on roads, bridges, ROB/RUB, underpasses and culverts.
• Independently handled projects of 15 Cr and above.
• Hands-on with MB recording, RA bill preparation and government department billing procedure.
• Working knowledge of MoRTH / IRC specifications and the WB PWD Schedule of Rates.
• Comfortable managing a site team, subcontractors and departmental relationships.
• Willing to be posted at project locations across West Bengal.
• Fluent in Bengali and Hindi; working English for correspondence.

Preferred

• Post-tensioning / prestressing experience — girder casting, stressing, grouting, launching.
• Experience with precast yards or segmental construction.
• Primavera P6 or MS Project; AutoCAD; strong MS Excel.
• Prior experience with PWD, KMDA, PHE, NHAI, RVNL or Railway works in West Bengal.
• Exposure to a digital site-management or ERP system.
