Job description

The role of the Project Manager is to oversee the day-to-day management, quality assurance, and reporting requirements in the Bellary District. The Project Manager will directly supervise a team of Project Coordinators and will report to the Regional Manager.

The work will involve fieldwork along with office work, with the percentage of time spent in the field based on project needs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Liaise with government officials and elected representatives at the district and taluk levels to facilitate the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) programme.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret SWM-related data; prepare reports and provide insights to support the district administration in taking decisions related to the SWM programme.
  • Organise review meetings with relevant government officials and elected representatives at the district and taluk levels to monitor the SWM programme's progress, offer suggestions to address challenges, and ensure timely implementation.
  • Support the District Administration in conducting baseline surveys and preparing reports.
  • Be part of the District Solid Waste Management Committee and attend the meetings.
  • Organise training programmes and workshops for community enablers, with support from the District Administration, to strengthen their capacities for effective programme implementation.
  • Identify relevant organisations, NGOs, and citizen initiatives and collaborate with them to expand the programme’s reach, effectiveness, and impact.
  • Design, establish, and manage appropriate project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting frameworks to track progress, assess outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Guide, monitor, and provide regular feedback to Project Coordinators to ensure effective implementation and smooth delivery of programme activities.
  • Monitor and approve budgeted programme expenditures, ensuring adherence to approved budgets and maintaining financial discipline.
  • Monitor cash-flow projections and report actual cash flow, expenditure, and variances to the Regional Manager on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate the delivery of services across different programme activities to improve overall effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives.
  • In consultation with the Regional Manager, participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection of qualified programme staff.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, partners, government stakeholders, and other relevant stakeholders to build support for the programme and gather inputs for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate the cooperation and support of government departments, NGOs, community-based organisations, and citizen initiatives, wherever required, to achieve the programme objectives.
Role-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide inputs and support the development of project collaterals like posters, pamphlets, short films, etc.
  • Conduct volunteer and employee engagement activities as required and develop interesting formats based on the sustainable waste management theme.
  • Train various local stakeholders involved regularly on sustainable waste management.
