Job summary

McDermott International, Ltd. seeks a seasoned Project Controls Specialist in India (Odisha) to lead planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting for major construction projects. The role requires 5+ years in project controls within EPC/energy or large capital projects, with strong analytical and communication skills to support management decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of Project Controls experience in large capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cost control, scheduling and risk management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly cost close, financial reporting, and schedule management for revenue projects.
  • Manage project financials, budgets, funding, POs, intercompany transactions, and actuals.
  • Ensure consistent cost coding and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Develop scenario-based financial and schedule models for decision-making.
  • Support annual budgeting and long-range planning with cost insights.
  • Coordinate with project teams to determine accruals and manage vendor invoices.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and industry standards.

Job Overview

The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for the planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, progress measurement, and performance reporting of major construction and industrial projects. The role requires advanced analytical skills, expertise in project controls systems, and the ability to transform large datasets into meaningful project insights that support management decision-making.

The successful candidate must possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management, strong knowledge of Primavera P6, cost control principles, and project risk management within a construction project environment.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary cost control or planning lead for revenue projects, overseeing all aspects of monthly cost close, financial reporting, schedule management, and performance tracking
  • Monitor and manage project financials, including annual budgets, funding requirements, purchase order commitments, intercompany transactions, and actual expenditures
  • Ensure accurate and consistent cost coding practices across the Project Team, aligning with corporate accounting standards and project-specific requirements
  • Conduct ad hoc cost analyses and develop scenario-based financial and schedule models to support decision-making and risk assessment within the project scope
  • Participate in the annual budgeting and long-range planning processes, contributing cost insights and historical data to support future project planning.
  • Collaborate with project managers, procurement, vendors, and finance teams to determine monthly accruals, validate actuals, and ensure timely reversal or follow-up on outstanding invoices
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, client requirements, and industry standards across all project controls activities
Essential Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of Project Controls experience in construction, EPC/m, energy, infrastructure, industrial, or large capital projects
  • Strong working knowledge of project controls principles, methodologies, and industry best practices
