Job summary

Royal Enfield (Unit of Eicher Motors Ltd.) is seeking a Production (NAPS TRAINEE) engineer to design and optimize assembly line layouts and production processes for mid-sized motorcycle segments in Chennai.

You will support process planning, line balancing, and continuous improvement through lean methods, Kaizen, and 5S, collaborating with design and shop-floor teams to reduce cycle times and eliminate bottlenecks.

Qualifications

• Design, implement, and optimize assembly line layouts and production processes.
• Bridge the gap between design engineering and shop-floor execution to reduce cycle times and bottlenecks.
• Introduce lean manufacturing methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Review engineering drawings and plan assembly routings for complex sub-assemblies.
• Conduct capacity planning, time-and-motion studies, and cycle time evaluations.
• Draft and maintain SOPs, BOM, and Work Instructions.
• Drive PQDSM metrics across assigned bays.
• Lead Kaizen, 5S, and Lean Production initiatives to reduce floor-space waste and minimize WIP.
• Perform root-cause analysis on repeating engineering defects to minimize line downtime.
• Formulate RFQs and interface with suppliers for fixtures, torque tooling, and poka-yoke devices.
• Assist maintenance teams during commissioning phases of advanced industrial hardware or automated systems.

Job Purpose

To design, implement, and optimize assembly line layouts and production processes for Royal Enfields mid-sized motorcycle segments. The Production Engineer bridges the gap between design engineering and shop-floor executionreducing structural process cycle times, eliminating production bottlenecks, and introducing lean manufacturing methodologies. Key ResponsibilitiesProcess Planning & Engineering Line Balancing

• Review engineering drawings and plan assembly routings for complex sub-assemblies (e.g., Engine Assembly or Chassis Integration).
• Conduct capacity planning, time-and-motion studies, and cycle time evaluations to balance production workloads.
• Draft and maintain manufacturing technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Bill of Materials (BOM), and Work Instructions. [1, 2]

Continuous Improvement & Lean Implementation

• Drive PQDSM (Production, Quality, Delivery, Safety, Morale) metrics across assigned bays (such as Tank Fabrication or Frame Weld shops). [1]
• Lead Kaizen, 5S System adherence, and Lean Production initiatives to cut down on floor-space waste and minimize Work-in-Progress (WIP) stock. [1, 2, 3]
• Perform root-cause analysis (RCA) on repeating engineering defects and mechanical failures to minimize line downtime. [1]

Tooling & Equipment Validation

• Formulate Request for Quotes (RFQs) and interface with suppliers for specialized shop floor fixtures, torque tooling, and poka-yoke (mistake-proofing) devices.
• Assist maintenance teams during commissioning phases of advanced industrial hardware or automated systems. [1, 2]
