Job summary

Plastocraft Automotive is seeking an Injection Moulding Supervisor to lead day-to-day production, manage operators and technicians, and ensure quality and timely delivery of moulded components.

The role requires a Diploma or degree in a related field with hands-on experience in thermoplastic injection moulding, process control, and continuous improvement techniques. You will work with cross-functional teams to maintain safety and 5S standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Plastics, Polymer, Production, or related field.
• Typically 3–8 years of injection moulding experience; supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
• Experience with thermoplastic injection moulding machines and mould changeovers.

Responsibilities

• Supervise injection moulding machines, operators, technicians, and material handlers.
• Plan and allocate manpower according to production schedule.
• Ensure correct machine setup for mould changes, start-up, shutdown, and production runs.
• Monitor cycle time, output, downtime, rejection, scrap, and material consumption.
• Verify moulded components meet drawings, samples, and quality standards.
• Identify and correct defects (short moulding, sink marks, flash, burn marks, warpage, colour variation).
• Optimise machine parameters to improve productivity, quality, and process stability.
• Coordinate mould changeovers and obtain first-off sample approval before mass production.
• Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, Stores, and Production Planning teams.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for breakdowns, defects, and customer complaints.

Position Overview

The Injection Moulding Supervisor manages day-to-day injection moulding operations and ensures that production targets, product quality, safety requirements, and delivery schedules are achieved. The position supervises operators and technicians, monitors machine performance, controls process parameters, and resolves production issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise injection moulding machines, operators, technicians, and material handlers.
• Plan and allocate manpower according to the production schedule.
• Ensure correct machine setup for mould changes, start-up, shutdown, and production runs.
• Monitor cycle time, output, downtime, rejection, scrap, and material consumption.
• Verify that moulded components meet approved drawings, samples, and quality standards.
• Identify and correct defects such as short moulding, sink marks, flash, burn marks, warpage, and colour variation.
• Optimise machine parameters to improve productivity, quality, and process stability.
• Coordinate mould changeovers and obtain first-off sample approval before mass production.
• Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, Stores, and Production Planning teams.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for breakdowns, defects, and customer complaints.
• Ensure preventive maintenance and daily machine checks are completed.
• Maintain production, rejection, downtime, shift handover, and material-consumption records.
• Train operators on standard operating procedures, safety, 5S, quality checks, and machine operation.
• Enforce PPE use and compliance with workplace safety procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and discipline around machines, moulds, tools, and the production area.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or bachelors degree in Mechanical, Plastics, Polymer, Production, or a related field.
• Typically 38 years of injection moulding experience; supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
• Experience with thermoplastic injection moulding machines and mould changeovers.
• Knowledge of moulding processes, machine settings, auxiliary equipment, and common moulded-part defects.
• Ability to read basic engineering drawings, inspection standards, and process sheets.
• Knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and basic root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with SPC, production KPIs, and quality documentation is an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of injection pressure, holding pressure, back pressure, screw speed, barrel temperature, mould temperature, cooling time, and cycle time.
• Experience with hydraulic, hybrid, or electric injection moulding machines.
• Understanding of hot runners, runners, gates, ejectors, cooling circuits, and mould maintenance.
• Ability to use vernier callipers, micrometers, gauges, weighing scales, and inspection equipment.
• Basic understanding of robots, pick-and-place systems, dryers, chillers, temperature controllers, and granulators.
• Familiarity with materials such as PP, ABS, HDPE, LDPE, nylon, PC, POM, and engineering polymers.
