Job summary

Flex N Gate in Mumbai is seeking a Product Engineer to assist with design, analysis, and quoting for new products and production changes. You will work with design and sales teams to identify features, review drawings, and prepare reports at each development stage, ensuring all customer specs are met.

You will lead DFx activities (DFM, DFA, VAVE) and manage tolerances and GD&T while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.

Qualifications

• BE in Mechanical/Production/Automobile/Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with 3D CAD design and SolidWorks preferred.
• Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans and Process Flow.

Responsibilities

• Product engineering and innovation for multiple manufacturing processes from concept to production launch.
• Review drawings, specs, and prototypes; prepare reports at each development stage.
• Collaborate with sales, manufacturing and QA to align product requirements with customer expectations.
• Perform GD&T checks, tolerance analysis and VAVE-based cost improvements.
• Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, layouts and BOMs in SolidWorks.
• Support design improvements, engineering quotations and proto testing.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Job Summary

The Product Engineer is responsible for assisting with the design, analysis, and quoting activity and testing of new products and support in production products with engineering changes or other aspects as required. Working with the Product Designer and sales/manufacturing teams, the Product Engineer identifies and facilitates product features and improvements. He/she reviews product drawings, specifications and prototypes, preparing reports as necessary at each stage of development and reviews product test results. He/she liaises with customers to review and update product status/timing and engineering changes. He/she ensures product meets and exceeds all customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Engineering and Innovation for Injection-Molded, Over molded, Welded, and Sheet Metal products, from concept development through production launch and product sustainment.


• Outcome-driven engineer with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Material Selection, FMEA, APQP, DVP&R and VAVE.


• Review engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and existing products to ensure compliance with customer requirements while identifying opportunities to improve product quality, functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.


• Develop accurate 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, design layouts, and BOMs using SolidWorks.


• Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies ensuring Form, Fit, Function, Manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.


• Collaborate with engineering teams to support new product development, Engineering quotations and design improvement projects.


• Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements, including SAE, ASTM, ASME , IATF 16949 (formerly TS 16949)and ISO standards.


• Revise drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation based on design changes and ECRs.


• Perform reverse engineering and competitive benchmarking to identify product strengths, weaknesses, localization opportunities, and value engineering (VAVE) improvements. Also analyze competitor products and identify opportunities for product improvement.


• Validate design features, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements. Knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis will be an added advantage.


• Support new product development activities from concept through production by reviewing designs, prototypes, validation results, engineering changes, and ensuring project milestones are achieved.


• Investigate product issues, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and support continuous product improvement initiatives.


• Develop, review, validate and document engineering deliverables in line with quality, cost, safety and performance expectations.


• Support prototype development, testing, and manufacturing teams when required.


• Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing and Quality to ensure product requirements align with customer expectations and business objectives.


• Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including the USA, as required.

Qualifications

• BE in Mechanical / Production / Automobile / Industrial Engineering or equivalent.


• Minimum 5 years of experience in 3D CAD design, preferably using SolidWorks.


• Experience in modelling and detailing mechanical components and assemblies.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (Part, Assembly, Drawing and BOM).


• Ability to interpret sketches, concepts, and engineering specifications.


• Knowledge of mechanical drafting standards and GD&T.


• Hands-on experience with Vernier Calipers, Micrometers and other measuring instruments.


• Understanding of 3D Printing, Machining, Sheet metal, Fabrication, Injection Molding or other manufacturing processes.


• Knowledge of mechanical assemblies and component interaction.


• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.


• Knowledge and execution experience of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow.


• Proven ability to create and execute product development plans that have achieved the identified targets.


• Good organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
