Job description

Purpose of the Role

This is a genuinely field-first role you're not sitting behind a desk waiting for suppliers to come to you. You're out identifying farmers, traders, and collection agents, building relationships in the market, and negotiating rates that hold up under company guidelines. If you enjoy travel, like talking to people, and want to see the direct link between the deal you close in the field and what shows up at the plant, this role gives you that.

What You'll Own
  • Identify, onboard, and manage suppliers in sericulture.
  • Conduct regular field visits to track supply availability, quality, and pricing trends firsthand
  • Negotiate purchase rates within company guidelines and close sourcing deals
  • Coordinate with internal teams on dispatch planning, inward material checks, and issue resolution
  • Maintain supplier databases, visit reports, and procurement MIS using basic digital tools
  • Track local market trends and give timely updates on price movement, supply conditions, and competitor activity
Who We’re Looking For
Candidate Profile
  • Education: Any graduate or diploma, with Agriculture, Agri-Business, Dairy, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred the degree matters less than a genuine grounding in how agri-commodities move from farm to buyer
  • UG: B.Sc in Agriculture or Dairy Technology, or B.B.A./B.M.S. in Supply Chain Management
  • PG: M.S./M.Sc. in Agriculture or Dairy Technology - an advantage, not a requirement, if backed by real field exposure
  • Experience: 1-6 years in procurement, sourcing, agri-trading, rural operations, field sales, or supply chain roles - we're open to a wide experience band because what matters most is comfort with the field, not years on paper
  • Candidates on the lower end of the experience range should show real, hands-on exposure to farmer or trader-facing work, even if informal or part of a larger team
  • Candidates on the higher end should be able to speak concretely about supplier relationships they've personally built and rates they've personally negotiated, not just processes they've overseen
  • A rural or semi-rural background, or demonstrated ease operating in that environment, is a strong plus - this role lives in mandis, collection points, and farmer visits, not office corridors
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills - able to earn a farmer's or trader's trust over repeat visits, not just close a one-off deal
  • Genuine comfort with field travel and on-ground supplier engagement, including irregular hours around harvest or collection schedules
  • Basic computer proficiency - Excel/Sheets, WhatsApp, and email - enough to keep supplier records and visit reports current without hand-holding
  • Good reporting and documentation discipline - the field work only creates value if what's seen and negotiated on the ground actually reaches the rest of the business
  • Sound judgement on pricing and quality under time pressure, since sourcing decisions often can't wait for head-office sign-off
  • Valid driving license and own vehicle preferred, given the extent of field travel
Languages
  • Mandatory: Kannada and Hindi - day-to-day supplier conversations happen in these languages, not English
  • Added advantage: Tamil and/or Telugu, useful as sourcing expands into neighboring states
Preferred Background
  • Experience in fresh fruits & vegetables procurement, farm sourcing, milk collection, mandi buying, agri-trading, perishable sourcing, or rural supply chains
  • Prior exposure to price-sensitive, perishable-commodity buying, where a delayed decision can mean lost quality or a lost deal
  • Genuine enjoyment of field-based work, not just tolerance of it - this isn't a stepping stone role for someone waiting to move to a desk job
What’s in it for you
  • Real financial security - PF, ESI/insurance, and other benefits as per company policy, so you're covered beyond just the paycheck
  • Travel taken care of - company travel policy covers you, so field/site visits don't come out of your pocket
How We Work at Loopworm
  • Freedom and responsibility - we tell you the outcome and the constraints, then get out of your way. No micromanagement. You own the result.
  • Honesty over comfort - bad news should travel fast. We'd rather hear about a problem the day it happens than a polished story a month later.
  • Numbers, not opinions - decisions are made on data; bring the arithmetic with your proposal
