POSITION PURPOSE
Manager, Product & Engineering position will lead a team of Engineers that will be responsible for Quality, Product & Packaging Engineering across India & Europe Sourcing Offices. Responsibilities include initiating, planning, executing, and controlling the projects to deliver functional strategic objectives.
The manager will also work with cross functional teams to support new product introductions. Major tasks in this assignment include development of standard operating procedures, definition of respective function protocols, and conducting risk assessments to guide business decisions. This position will also be required to support daily business transactions to resolve deficiencies & bring operation excellence in Engineering vertical. This will include significant interaction and collaboration with sourcing, suppliers, service providers and respective stakeholders at the USA Head Office.
In addition to providing day-to-day support to the team, the Manager will focus on the complex projects with high risk and business implications.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Guide strategy to achieve set targets and drive operational excellence for Quality, Product & Packaging Engineering area.
- Advise and implement company policies and procedures.
- Plan and allocate engineering work to the ISO engineering Team. Oversee and ensure programs are executed effectively.
- Lead, develop & hire talent, coach and train associates in the team, cultivate team spirit to align with the company’s value-based behavior.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement - corrective / preventive / predictive action planning via Kaizen and six sigma approach.
- Develop and deliver training tailored to the needs of internal and external audiences.
- Coach and develop Engineers on technical skills, function relevant tools & system; supplier & service provider management.
- Monitor team’s performance to plan and provide regular performance feedback.
- Lead the Engineering team on supplier improvement programs, drive the end-to-end QA Management for the ISO & ESO business, packaging programs and new product introduction within global product development and sourcing organization.
- Identify levers of value of product for customer and drive value creation to improve competitive advantage of the new product in costing and features.
- Manage and strive to improve external service provider’s technical capabilities and business relationship to ensure compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with Engineering team at ATL and other GSO offices, government agencies, safety certification agencies, and industry to review, and comment on, safety standards applicable to products.
- Identify and implement best practices based on industry knowledge.
- Coach suppliers to build capability in both process control and design improvement, resolve issues related to respective engineering vertical.
- Provide interphase and coordinate with related functional groups regarding Quality, Product & Packaging programs & initiatives, internally within ISO, externally with supplier / service providers and with US Stakeholders to ensure Company Integrity Policy, Engineering Standard Operating Procedures and MSA.
- Manage the execution of Standard Operation Procedures, Data reporting, Audit and take prompt improvement actions to support a data-driven system with risk and performance-based criteria to meet product design quality, cost, customer satisfaction and technical compliance goals through product lifecycle.
- Identify, plan, execute, and manage key packaging value creation projects like sustainable packaging, true damage, right-sizing to deliver strategic business needs for growth.
- Ensure development or maintenance of packaging standard, performance test protocol, various SOPs and related implementation
- Be able to understand and analyze cost structure of manufacturing and COGS (Cost of Goods Sold), design for manufacturing and design for assembly, capable of reviewing product specifications, tech pack, supplier’s technical profile.
- 17+ years working experience in the retail/sourcing industry.
- Experience in the Home Improvement and retail industry preferred
- Proven Engineering skills in design, development, testing and launch products
- Understanding of statistical quality control tools,
- Knowledge of packaging performance, new product development and structure.
- Knowledge of product design and process control.
- Experience in facilitating New Product Development projects
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles
- Lean six sigma green belt certified by world-wide known company or organization. Black belt certification would be a plus.
