THERMAX is seeking a Process Plant Engineer (Mechanical) to manage and support operation, mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, and trial activities of pilot/process plants related to chemical technologies. The role includes ensuring equipment readiness for trials, coordinating with vendors, and supporting installation, commissioning and plant campaigns.

Strong hands-on experience with process equipment and ability to work in shifts is essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of process plant equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers and piping.
  • Experience in pilot/process plant operations and trial campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure availability and readiness of process plants and mechanical equipment for planned trials.
  • Manage overall pilot/process plant operation including shift operations and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of process equipment and utilities.
  • Review PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, and equipment drawings; understand mechanical specifications.
  • Support design, selection, and sizing of mechanical equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers and pumps.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment supply, service, inspection, repair and troubleshooting.
  • Visit client/project sites for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and trials.

Job Profile - Process Plant Engineer (Mechanical)

To manage and support the operation, mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, modification and trial activities of pilot/process plants related to Coal/Biomass-to-Methanol, DME, H, Biofuels, Carbon Capture & Utilization and other emerging technologies.

A. Key Objective

To manage and support the operation, mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, modification and trial activities of pilot/process plants related to Coal/Biomass-to-Methanol, DME, H, Biofuels, Carbon Capture & Utilization and other emerging technologies.

B. Major Deliverables
  • Ensure availability and readiness of process plants and mechanical equipment for planned trials and campaigns.
  • Manage and support overall pilot/process plant operation, including shift operations and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of process equipment and utilities.
  • Review and understand PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, equipment drawings and mechanical specifications.
  • Support design, selection and sizing of mechanical/process equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, blowers, piping and other associated equipment.
  • Support installation, erection, commissioning and modification of process plant equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment supply, service, inspection, repair and troubleshooting of critical mechanical equipment.
  • Coordinate with internal manufacturing, engineering, procurement and project teams for plant-related activities.
  • Manage spares, consumables and mechanical maintenance requirements for plant operation.
  • Support execution of short-duration and long-duration plant trials/campaigns and ensure equipment readiness.
  • Identify operational/mechanical issues during trials and provide effective troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Maintain proper documentation of maintenance, modifications, equipment history and trial-related activities.
  • Support preparation of trial reports and technical documentation.
  • Ensure safe and reliable operation of mechanical equipment in coordination with the operations and safety teams.
  • Visit client/project sites as required for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and trial activities.
3. Essential Attributes
  • Strong understanding of process plant equipment, mechanical systems and relevant unit operations.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment such as:
    • Compressors
    • Pumps
    • Blowers
    • Heat exchangers
    • Pressure vessels
    • Boilers
    • Cooling towers
    • Burners
    • Filter presses
    • Nitrogen PSA systems
    • Process piping and associated mechanical equipment
  • Experience in plant maintenance, troubleshooting, erection, commissioning and modification activities.
  • Working knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, equipment drawings and mechanical specifications.
  • Experience in pilot plant/process plant operations and trial campaigns will be preferred.
  • Experience with fluidized-bed systems will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work in shifts and support plant trials as required.
  • Good coordination skills with cross-functional teams, vendors, contractors and internal manufacturing functions.
  • Self-starter with strong ownership, problem-solving and execution capability.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle manpower and coordinate multiple plant activities efficiently.
