Job summary

Fichtner Consulting Engineers in Bengaluru, India, seeks a senior Process Engineer to lead the design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing for oil, gas, chemical, and refinery projects.

You will drive FEED and detailed engineering, collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in HAZOP/SIL and risk assessments, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring safety and quality across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering; Master's preferred.
  • 15 years of process engineering experience in oil & gas, chemical, refinery & petrochemical sectors.
  • Strong understanding of chemical process design, thermodynamics, fluid flow, and reaction engineering.
  • Proficiency in simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, etc.
  • Experience handling corrosive chemicals, high-pressure systems, and complex reactions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances.
  • Lead FEED, detailed engineering and EPC scope.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and safety teams for integrated design.
  • Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and risk assessments; implement safety recommendations.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting and performance testing of chemical plant.
  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical solutions, and participate in reviews and bid evaluations.

Job description

Role & responsibilities
Process Design & Engineering
  • Develop and review process engineering deliverables including:
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Process Datasheets
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Heat and material balances
  • Equipment sizing and specifications
  • Utility consumption and integration
  • Perform process simulations using tools like Honeywell Unisim, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, HTRI, ChemCAD, or ProMax.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (API, ASME, ISO, OSHA, NFPA, SHELL DEPs) and client specifications.
Project Development & Execution
  • Lead process engineering scope for FEED, detailed engineering, and EPC projects.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and safety teams to ensure integrated design.
  • Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and risk assessments and ensure implementation of safety recommendations.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance testing of chemical plant.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical reviews, proposal development, and bid evaluations.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering documents and reports.
Team Development & Mentorship
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
  • Conduct internal design reviews and promote best practices in process engineering.
  • Contribute to technical knowledge sharing and innovation within the organization.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all engineering work adheres to quality standards, safety regulations, and environmental norms.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design processes and project execution.

Implement lessons learned and feedback mechanisms to enhance future project outcomes.

Preferred candidate profile
  • Bachelors degree in chemical engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 15 years of experience in process engineering within engineering consultancy services for the Oil & Gas/Chemical/Refinery & Petro-chemical industry.
  • Strong understanding of chemical process design, thermodynamics, fluid flow, and reaction engineering.
  • Proficiency in simulation and design software: Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, etc.
  • Experience in handling corrosive chemicals, high-pressure systems, and complex chemical reactions.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
  • Exposure to sustainability, energy efficiency, and green chemistry principles.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering platforms and process optimization tools.
  • Certifications such as Process Safety Management (PSM), Six Sigma, or PMP.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client management skills.
