Job summary

Galaxy Surfactants seeks a Project Engineer (Mechanical) to lead execution and site coordination for chemical process plant projects in Gujarat. The role stresses safety, QA/QC, and cross-functional teamwork with Civil, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams.

You will review GA, P&ID, PFD, and isometrics, ensure compliance with design specs, manage contractors, monitor schedules, and control costs while upholding PTW, JSA, and HIRA processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.).
  • Experience in Project Engineering/Project Execution within chemical/process industries.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical construction activities for chemical process plant projects.
  • Supervise erection and installation of static and rotary equipment.
  • Coordinate piping fabrication and installation (metallic, non-metallic, lined).
  • Coordinate structural steel erection and installation.
  • Ensure coordination with Civil, Electrical & Instrumentation teams.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and subcontractors at site.
  • Review and execute GA, P&ID, PFD, Isometrics, Plant Layout drawings.
  • Verify field installations against engineering documents.
  • Ensure adherence to design specs and project standards.
  • Monitor safety with PTW, JSA, HIRA; ensure safe lifting/rigging.

Job description

Role & responsibilities
1. Project Execution & Site Coordination
  • Execute mechanical construction activities for chemical process plant projects.
  • Supervise erection and installation of:
    • Static equipment such as Reactors, Heat Exchangers, Pressure Vessels, Columns, and Tanks.
    • Rotary equipment such as Pumps, Blowers, Compressors, and Agitators.
  • Coordinate piping fabrication and installation activities for:
    • Metallic piping
    • Non-metallic piping
    • Lined piping systems
  • Coordinate structural steel erection and installation activities.
  • Ensure seamless coordination with Civil, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams.
  • Manage and coordinate activities of contractors, vendors, and subcontractors at project sites.
2. Drawing & Specification Compliance
  • Review and execute work in accordance with:
    • General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)
    • Isometric Drawings
    • Plant Layout Drawings
  • Verify field installations against approved engineering documents.
  • Ensure strict adherence to design specifications and project standards.
  • Prevent unauthorized deviations and obtain necessary approvals for any design modifications.
3. Contractor & Resource Management
  • Supervise contractor workforce and site manpower deployment.
  • Monitor and track project progress through:
    • Daily reports
    • Weekly reviews
    • Monthly progress reports
  • Manage resource allocation to ensure optimum utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Drive productivity improvements and maintain project schedules.
  • Monitor project quality, timelines, and budget performance.
4. Safety Implementation (Critical Responsibility)
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project activities.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards associated with chemical process plants, including:
    • Fire hazards
    • Toxic chemical exposure
    • Pressure-related hazards
    • Mechanical risks
  • Ensure implementation and compliance of:
    • Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
    • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)
    • Job Work Method Statements (JWMS)
  • Ensure strict adherence to Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures for:
    • Hot Work
    • Work at Height
    • Confined Space Entry
    • LOTOTO (Lockout-Tagout-Tryout)
    • Line Breaking Activities
  • Verify safe lifting and rigging practices during heavy equipment handling and installation.
5. Time & Cost Management
  • Monitor project progress against approved schedules and milestones.
  • Identify and resolve delays, constraints, and bottlenecks.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  • Support project planning and scheduling activities.
  • Optimize resource utilization to achieve schedule and cost targets.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions where required.
6. Quality Control & Inspection
  • Ensure compliance with project quality standards and specifications.
  • Monitor and verify:
    • Welding quality as per WPS/PQR requirements
    • Hydrostatic testing activities
    • Equipment alignment and installation tolerances
    • Mechanical completion activities
  • Coordinate inspections with contractor QA/QC teams.
  • Participate in punch point closure, quality audits, and client inspections.
  • Ensure all mechanical works are completed in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering.
