Job summary

Basilic Fly Studio in Chennai is seeking a Prep Artist to support the compositing and VFX pipeline. This full-time, on-site role involves cleaning plates, removing rigs and markers, creating patches, and preparing shots for seamless integration of visual elements.

Day-to-day tasks include rotoscoping, paint and cleanup, basic tracking and stabilization, and organizing layers for downstream departments. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, follows creative direction, and works well

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in VFX prep tasks: rotoscoping, paint/cleanup, plate prep.
• Proficiency with industry tools: Nuke, Silhouette, Mocha or similar compositing software.
• Understanding of compositing, color, layering, and basic tracking/stabilization workflows.
• Ability to interpret shot briefs, follow supervisor feedback, and maintain consistency across shots.
• Strong visual attention to detail, problem-solving, and ability to work under deadlines.
• Excellent communication and teamwork in a fast-paced studio environment.
• Relevant education or training in VFX/animation/multimedia; studio experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Rotoscope, paint and cleanup, and plate preparation to prep shots for compositing.
• Create patches and assist with cleanups for seamless integration of elements.
• Perform basic tracking and stabilization as required by the shot.
• Organize layers/assets and maintain consistency across sequences.

Role Description The Prep Artist role is a full-time, on-site position based at Basilic Fly Studio’s Chennai facility. Prep Artists support the compositing and VFX pipeline by cleaning plates, removing rigs and markers, creating patches, and preparing shots for seamless integration of visual elements. Day-to-day tasks include rotoscoping, paint and cleanup, basic tracking and stabilization, and organizing layers and assets for downstream departments. Prep Artists collaborate closely with compositors, supervisors, and production coordinators to meet project timelines and maintain consistent quality. The role requires attention to detail, a strong eye for continuity, and the ability to follow creative direction while adhering to established workflows.

• Strong foundation in VFX prep tasks, including rotoscoping, paint and cleanup, and plate preparation.
• Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Nuke, Silhouette, Mocha, or similar compositing and roto software.
• Good understanding of compositing principles, color, layering, and basic tracking/stabilization workflows.
• Ability to interpret shot briefs, follow supervisor feedback, and maintain consistency across multiple shots.
• Strong visual attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and capacity to work efficiently under production deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced studio environment.
