Job summary

Capsule VFX is seeking a Prep Artist in India to prepare plates for downstream VFX work. You will rotoscope, paint, and prep shots, creating mattes and alpha channels to ensure clean integration for compositing teams.

Collaborate closely with compositors, CG artists, and production coordinators to meet project timelines while adhering to naming conventions and established workflows. Prior experience is beneficial and continuous learning is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Strong prep for VFX shots using industry tools.
• Knowledge of compositing principles and VFX pipelines.
• Ability to analyze plates and prepare mattes and layers.
• Attention to detail and strong visual judgment.
• Excellent collaboration with compositors, CG teams, and production.
• Follow structured naming conventions and organized workflows.
• Experience as Prep Artist/Roto/Paint Artist/Junior Compositor is beneficial.
• Education in VFX/animation or related field preferred or equivalent experience.

Role Description The Prep Artist is a full-time, on-site role based in India, responsible for preparing shots for downstream VFX work and ensuring clean, organized input for compositing and other departments. Day-to-day tasks include rotoscoping, paint and prep work, plate cleanup, and creating mattes and alpha channels to support seamless integration of visual effects. The Prep Artist will collaborate with compositors, CG artists, and production coordinators to understand shot requirements, meet quality standards, and deliver assets according to project timelines. The role involves reviewing incoming plates, identifying technical challenges, and proposing efficient solutions that maintain visual continuity and realism. The Prep Artist is expected to follow established workflows, adhere to naming and versioning conventions, and contribute to a reliable, detail-oriented production pipeline.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in prep for VFX shots, using industry-standard tools (e.g., Nuke, Silhouette, Mocha, Photoshop).
• Knowledge of compositing principles, color space, image formats, and basic VFX pipeline workflows.
• Ability to analyze plates, manage detailed shot breakdowns, and prepare high-quality mattes and layers for downstream departments.
• Attention to detail, strong visual judgment, and the ability to maintain consistency across sequences under tight deadlines.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills for working closely with compositors, CG teams, and production management.
• Ability to follow structured naming conventions, file management practices, and studio guidelines to keep work organized and accessible.
• Prior experience as a Prep Artist, Roto/Paint Artist, or Junior Compositor in a VFX studio environment is highly beneficial.
• Relevant education or training in VFX, animation, digital arts, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
• Willingness to learn new tools and techniques, adapt to evolving workflows, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
