Job summary

Sika in Chakan-Pune is seeking a Packaging Technician-Bulk chemical to execute batch manufacturing and packaging operations. You will manage raw materials, packaging supplies, and equipment, ensuring adherence to WI/SOPs, safety, and quality standards.

Responsibilities include operating HMI-driven machinery, line clearance, cleaning and changeovers, and maintaining accurate records for production logs and batch cards.

Qualifications

  • Diploma, B.Sc., M.Sc., or Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing plant.
  • Hands-on experience in batch manufacturing and packaging operations.
  • Experience in the safe handling of powders, liquid chemicals, solvents, and hazardous materials.
  • Familiarity with automated manufacturing equipment, HMI-based operations, and batch processes will be preferred.

Job description

Title: Packaging Technician-Bulk chemical

Department: Operations

Location: Chakan-Pune

Reports To: Asst. Manager Production

Overview:

The position will be responsible for carrying out batch manufacturing, packaging, equipment cleaning, and preservation of mixers, packaging lines, and associated accessories. The role also includes preparing raw materials for batch manufacturing under supervision while ensuring compliance with established safety, quality, and operational standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Operate batch manufacturing and packaging equipment in accordance with approved Work Instructions (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Batch card, and process specifications.
  • Operate automated production equipment through the Human Machine Interface (HMI) and monitor process parameters during production.
  • Prepare and verify the availability of raw materials (RM), packaging materials (PM), and required tools before starting production.
  • Perform raw material charging, batch manufacturing, mixing, filtration, transfer, and packaging activities as per the production plan.
  • Monitor critical process parameters and immediately report any process deviations, equipment abnormalities, or quality concerns to the Shift In-charge/Supervisor.
  • Collect process samples as required and coordinate with the Quality Control (QC) team for in-process and finished product testing.
  • Prepare mixers, pots, transfer containers, packaging lines, and associated equipment before production and ensure their proper cleaning, preservation, and storage after completion.
  • Perform line clearance before batch manufacturing and packaging to prevent product mix-ups and cross-contamination.
  • Execute cleaning and changeover activities between products in accordance with approved cleaning procedures.
  • Carry out autonomous maintenance activities, perform routine equipment inspections, and report maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Ensure sufficient availability of raw materials, packaging materials, consumables, and utilities to avoid production interruptions.
  • Perform manual packaging, labelling, palletizing, and transfer of finished goods as per approved packaging standards.
  • Handle, transfer, and store raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods safely using appropriate material handling equipment and methods.
  • Record production, consumption, cleaning, process, and equipment-related data accurately in production logs, checklists, batch card, or other designated records.
  • Follow FIFO/FEFO principles and ensure proper identification, traceability, and status labelling of all materials.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), 5S, and housekeeping standards to maintain a clean, safe, and organized workplace.
  • Strictly comply with all Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements, including the use of prescribed PPE, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space requirements, and emergency response procedures.
  • Segregate, handle, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, spills, leaks, and equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements, including IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Participate in safety talks, operational training, emergency drills, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen and Lean manufacturing.
  • Perform any other production-related duties assigned by the Shift In-charge, Supervisor, or Manufacturing Manager..
Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience of handling chemical powder & solvents in sealant or adhesive plant.
  • Experience in handling in equipments like BOPT, HOPT.
  • Punctual, disciplined, and dependable with a positive work attitude.
  • Good organizing skills to reduce delays in between processes.
  • Good learning skills and can perform as per need for process.
  • Physically fit to perform material handling, lifting, and continuous shop‑floor operations in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to identify abnormalities and promptly report process or equipment issues to the supervisor.
