Job summary

Modern Energy Rental seeks a skilled field technician to operate and monitor DG sets, load banks, transformers, and air compressors across multiple site locations. You will start, stop, synchronize, and load DG sets per site SOPs, while tracking voltage, current, frequency, load, and engine temperatures for safe operation.

Responsibilities include transformer inspections, logging shift data, assisting maintenance teams, and applying preventive and corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Experience operating DG sets, load banks, transformers and air compressors.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical parameters and log records.
• Familiarity with safety procedures and PPE usage.

Job description

• Operate and monitor DG sets, load banks, transformers, and air compressors as per operational requirements.
• Start, stop, synchronize, and load/unload DG sets according to site requirements and SOPs.
• Monitor DG parameters including voltage, current, frequency, load, engine temperature, oil pressure, coolant level, and fuel level.
• Operate load banks during DG testing and performance/load testing.
• Monitor load-bank parameters such as kW, voltage, current, frequency, and step loading.
• Carry out transformer inspection and monitor parameters such as voltage, current, temperature, oil level, and other indications.
• Monitor transformer panels, protection indications, alarms, and abnormal conditions.
• Operate air compressors and monitor pressure, temperature, oil level, and operating condition.
• Perform routine inspection of equipment and identify abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, leakage, or other faults.
• Maintain equipment logbooks, running-hour records, fuel consumption records, load-bank test reports, and shift reports.
• Carry out basic troubleshooting and immediately report breakdowns or abnormal equipment conditions to the maintenance team.
• Assist electrical and mechanical maintenance teams during preventive and breakdown maintenance.
• Check fuel, lubricating oil, coolant, compressor oil, battery condition, and other consumables.
• Maintain proper housekeeping around DG, transformer, load-bank, and compressor areas.
• Follow electrical, mechanical, fire, and occupational safety procedures at all times.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and follow permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures where applicable.
• Coordinate with the control room, electrical team, and maintenance team during equipment operation and testing.
• Ensure equipment is operated within manufacturer and site operating limits.
• Maintain accurate shift handover and communicate equipment status to the next shift.
• Support emergency power operations and respond promptly to alarms, trips, and equipment failures.
• Good knowledge of DG operation and electrical distribution systems.
• Knowledge of load-bank operation and DG performance testing.
• Basic knowledge of transformers, HT/LT panels, protection systems, and electrical parameters.
• Knowledge of reciprocating diesel engines and air-compressor systems.
• Ability to read and record electrical and mechanical parameters.
• Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and safe operating procedures.
• Good understanding of electrical and workplace safety practices.
• 0-5 years, depending on the position and organization.
