Job description

Trade Bridge Advisors LLP is a Mumbai-based regulatory and trade advisory firm. Our team includes former Senior Officers of the Indian Revenue Service, who bring decades of experience in administering Customs and GST laws, along with a young, execution-focused team.

We advise on EXIM, Customs, GST, DGFT, SEZ and FEMA matters for clients across gems and jewellery, EOU / SEZ manufacturing, logistics, chemicals and engineering. As the practice grows, we are expanding the team with professionals who want to build a serious career in trade and indirect tax regulation.

Role Overview

The EXIM Operations Executive will handle the day-to-day regulatory and documentary work that keeps client import-export operations running - from DGFT authorisations and SEZ / EOU approvals to Customs documentation and follow-ups with departmental offices.

This is a hands-on operational role for someone who knows the portals, the documentation and the practical working of regulatory offices, and who can reliably execute filings, follow up on approvals and keep client matters moving.

Key Responsibilities
A. DGFT & Foreign Trade Policy Operations
  • Prepare and file applications on the DGFT portal - IEC (including modifications), Advance Authorisation, EPCG, RoDTEP / RoSCTL, MEIS / SEIS legacy matters, and import / export authorisations for restricted items.
  • Track pending applications, respond to deficiency queries and coordinate with DGFT regional authorities and export promotion councils.
  • Maintain export obligation and redemption trackers and support EODC / closure applications.
B. SEZ / EOU Operations
  • Prepare and file applications and compliance documents on SEZ Online and with Development Commissioner offices (SEEPZ, KASEZ, JNPT-SEZ, Pune and others) - LOA / LOP, extensions, unit approvals, amendments and annual performance reporting.
  • Support units with DTA sales, ARE-1 / bond / legal undertaking compliances, inter-unit transfers, de-bonding and related approvals.
  • Prepare commencement-of-production, net foreign exchange and other periodic compliance documentation with finance teams.
C. Customs Documentation & Coordination
  • Prepare and check import / export documentation - Bill of Entry, Shipping Bill, invoices, packing lists, HS classification support and valuation documents.
  • Handle Customs portal filings (ICEGATE) such as refund, drawback, provisional assessment, bond and warehouse-related applications.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, shipping lines and Customs offices to resolve cargo, assessment or documentation issues.
  • Follow up on duty drawback, refund and BRC / realisation-related matters.
D. Records & Client Coordination
  • Maintain organised documentation files, compliance calendars and status trackers for each client.
  • Provide timely status updates to partners and clients and escalation issues that need senior intervention.
  • Assist partners and consultants by compiling documents and data for advisory opinions, SCN replies and regulatory submissions.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification
  • Graduate in Commerce, Management, Law or equivalent; a diploma or certification in EXIM / Foreign Trade / Customs Practice is an advantage.
  • Course or certification in Customs, DGFT or logistics (e.g. Customs Broker licence, EXIM management programme) is preferred.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in EXIM operations at a consultancy, CHA / freight forwarder or an SEZ / EOU / export-import company.
  • Hands-on experience with DGFT, ICEGATE and SEZ Online portals.
  • Prior exposure to SEZ / EOU compliance or gems and jewellery, engineering or chemicals trade is an advantage.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Good working knowledge of Foreign Trade Policy, Customs procedures, import-export documentation and INCOTERMS.
  • Understanding of SEZ / EOU rules and the practical working of Development Commissioner and Customs offices.
  • Strong drafting skills for applications, deficiency replies and formal letters to authorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel for trackers and data compilation.
Personal Attributes
  • Process-oriented, thorough and reliable in meeting deadlines.
  • Proactive follow-up and good communication with clients and government officials.
  • Willingness to travel locally for regulatory offices when required.
  • Integrity and confidentiality in handling client records.
What We Offer
  • Hands-on exposure to the full cycle of DGFT, Customs and SEZ / EOU regulatory work across leading industry sectors.
  • A knowledge-intensive environment with exposure to varied mandates across industries and regulators.
