Job summary

Apollo Knowledge Ventures Limited seeks an OT Scrub Nurse to support the surgical team in a busy hospital, ensuring readiness and aseptic conditions. The role involves sterilizing instruments, preparing the operating theatre, passing instruments during procedures, and maintaining sterile technique to protect patient safety.

You will work closely with surgeons and anesthetists to ensure smooth workflow and accurate postoperative cleanup.

Responsibilities

• Sterilizing and preparing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before surgery.
• Passing instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies to the surgeon and surgical team during the procedure.
• Maintaining sterile techniques and preventing contamination of sterile fields.
• Counting instruments, sponges, and needles before and after surgery to ensure nothing is left inside the patient.
• Positioning the patient on the operating table and ensuring safety.
• Coordinating with surgeons, anesthetists, and the surgical team to maintain workflow.
• Maintaining accurate surgical documentation and reporting any breaches in sterile technique.
• Post-operative cleanup and preparation for the next surgery; sterilize and store instruments.

Preparation of the Operating Theater

• Sterilizing and preparing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before surgery.
• Ensuring that the operating area is clean and sterile to maintain infection control.

Assisting During Surgery

• Passing instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies to the surgeon and surgical team during the procedure.
• Anticipating the needs of the surgical team and responding promptly.

Maintaining Sterile Techniques

• Ensuring sterile fields are not contaminated.
• Monitoring the surgical environment to prevent infection risks.

Handling Surgical Instruments

• Counting instruments, sponges, and needles before and after surgery to ensure nothing is left inside the patient.
• Properly handling and disposing of sharps and other equipment.

Patient Safety and Comfort

• Assisting in positioning the patient on the operating table.
• Advocating for patient safety and needs during surgery.

Collaboration and Communication

• Coordinating with surgeons, anesthetists, and other members of the surgical team.
• Communicating clearly to ensure efficient workflow in the OT.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintaining accurate records of the surgical procedure, equipment used, and any incidents that occur.
• Reporting any breaches in sterile technique or equipment malfunction.

Post-operative Duties

• Assisting with post-operative cleanup and preparation for the next surgery.
• Ensuring instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and stored correctly after use.
