Job summary

Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals in India seeks an experienced Scrub Nurse to support operation theatres by preparing instruments and maintaining a sterile field. You will scrub, gown, and glove, assist surgeons, and ensure meticulous instrument counting and infection control.

Ideal candidate has 3-6 years in an OT, with nursing registration. You will coordinate with surgeons and OT staff, handle sterilization processes, and adhere to NABH quality standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid nursing registration (GNM/B.Sc. Nursing).
• Experience in an Operation Theatre as Scrub Nurse preferred (3-6 years).
• Hands-on scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and sterile-field maintenance required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare OT, instruments, and sterile supplies before procedures.
• Perform scrubbing, gowning, and gloving per infection control protocols.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout procedures.
• Arrange and check instruments, sutures, dressings, and consumables.
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments during operations.
• Count instruments, needles, sponges, and materials before/during/after procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Handle, segregate, and transfer used instruments for sterilization.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, circulating nurses, and OT staff.
• Check availability and sterility of instruments before procedures.
• Maintain OT records and instrument count sheets.
• Follow infection prevention and waste management protocols.
• Report breaches; ensure compliance with hospital SOPs and NABH standards.

Role & responsibilities

• Prepare the operation theatre, surgical instruments, and sterile supplies before procedures.
• Perform surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving as per infection control protocols.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Arrange and check surgical instruments, sutures, dressings, and other required consumables.
• Assist surgeons and surgical teams by passing instruments during operations.
• Ensure proper counting of surgical instruments, needles, sponges, and other materials before, during, and after procedures.
• Monitor and maintain aseptic techniques throughout the surgical procedure.
• Ensure proper handling, segregation, and transfer of used instruments for sterilization.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, circulating nurses, and other OT staff.
• Check the availability and sterility of instruments and surgical supplies before procedures.
• Maintain accurate OT records, instrument count sheets, and required documentation.
• Follow infection prevention, biomedical waste management, and patient safety protocols.
• Report any breach of sterility, instrument discrepancies, or equipment issues promptly.
• Ensure compliance with hospital SOPs and NABH quality standards.

Preferred candidate profile

• GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid nursing registration.
• 3-6 years of experience in an Operation Theatre, preferably as a Scrub Nurse.
• Hands-on experience in surgical scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and maintaining a sterile field.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures across various specialties.
• Understanding of instrument and sponge counting protocols.
• Knowledge of sterilization, infection control, and biomedical waste management.
• Ability to anticipate surgeons instrument requirements during procedures.
• Good coordination and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Willingness to work in rotational shifts and emergency OT duties.
