Job summary

Mahansaria Group is seeking an experienced apparel designer to lead the end-to-end design and development of riding gear, including jackets, gloves, and pants, balancing performance, safety, and market needs.

You will work from concept to production, create tech packs, coordinate with vendors, and oversee fit development, materials, and protective technologies to deliver scalable, compliant gear.

Experience in leather or technical outerwear and a strong portfolio are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in apparel design with a portfolio showing end-to-end product development.
  • Proficiency in CAD and technical drawing; Adobe Illustrator for flat sketches and tech packs; CLO 3D is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of textiles and materials including leather, Cordura, Kevlar®, stretch panels and laminates.
  • Hands-on experience creating tech packs, managing sampling rounds, and communicating with factories.
  • Understanding of protective gear construction — armour placement, panel reinforcement, and safety considerations.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Responsible for the end-to-end design and development of riding gear products, combining functional performance, safety requirements, and market-driven design


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and develop riding gear products (jackets, gloves, pants) from concept to final production.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to inform design decisions.
  • Create tech packs and detailed specifications for sampling and manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with vendors and factories for sampling, revisions, and bulk production.
  • Manage fit development, pattern corrections, and panel optimization.
  • Research and integrate protective technologies (e.g., armour systems, abrasion-resistant materials).
  • Manage supporting tasks to ensure smooth production.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Must Have
  • Experience in apparel or technical outerwear design with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product development.
  • Proficiency in CAD and technical drawing Adobe Illustrator for flat sketches and tech packs; CLO 3D is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of textiles and materials including leather, Cordura, Kevlar®, stretch panels, laminates, and abrasion-resistant fabrics.
  • Hands-on experience creating tech packs, managing sampling rounds, and communicating with factories.
  • Understanding of protective gear construction — armour placement, panel reinforcement, and relevant safety considerations.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple products across a production calendar.
Nice to Have
  • Background in motorcycle, outdoor, or action sports apparel.
  • Personal riding experience or passion for motorcycling.

Preferred streams:

Leather Design (B.Des) – First preference, given the strong focus on leather garments/accessories, pattern making and construction.

Accessory Design (B.Des) – Particularly relevant for glove design and construction.

Fashion Design (B.Des) / B.FTech – Apparel Production – Can be considered where candidates have relevant projects or portfolios in technical/protective outerwear, performance wear or functional apparel.


Preference for protective/performance wear experience over purely fashion-focused projects

Working knowledge of pattern making and garment/leather construction

Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, CorelDraw; CLO3D or similar tools would be an added advantage

Basic understanding of leather sourcing/processing and/or technical textiles

Internship/live project experience with leather goods, motorcycle gear, sportswear or protective apparel brands would be a strong plus
