Job Title: SME Microsoft Windows Infrastructure (L3)

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned L3 Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Microsoft Windows Administration to assist with engineering, maintenance, and high-level escalation support for our enterprise Windows server infrastructure. In this role, you will act as a technical authority for complex Windows OS issues, Active Directory management, virtualization.
You will work closely with security and network teams to ensure 99.99% uptime, implement robust automation, drive security hardening, and mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 support staff.
Key Responsibilities
Tier-3 Escalation & Deep Diagnostics
- Act as the final escalation point for critical (P1/P2) incidents involving Windows Server OS, Active Directory, storage, and core infrastructure services.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring complex issues, system crashes, kernel memory dump analysis, and performance bottlenecks.
- Lead disaster recovery (DR) planning, execution, and periodic failover testing across multi-site environments.
Server Infrastructure & High Availability
- Manage enterprise Windows Server environments (Windows Server 2019, 2022).
- Design, implement, and maintain Failover Clustering, Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), and VMware host environments.
- Optimize server performance, memory allocation, and storage performance across physical and virtualized VMware platforms.
Automation, Scripting & Patching
- Build and maintain advanced PowerShell scripts and automation workflows for routine maintenance, server provisioning, user management, and health checks.
- Oversee enterprise patch management strategies using MECM (SCCM), WSUS ensuring high patch compliance across server fleets.
- Establish standard server baselines, automated image deployments, and configuration management.
Security, Compliance & Hardening
- Implement standard security benchmarks (CIS, STIG) to harden Windows OS and Active Directory.
- Partner with the Security Operations team to remediate vulnerability scan findings, manage privileged access (PIM/PAM), and enforce RBAC principles.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on experience managing complex, enterprise-scale Microsoft Windows infrastructure environments.
- Proven track record in an L3 / SME capacity, handling high-severity escalations and root- cause troubleshooting.
Technical Expertise
- Operating Systems: Windows Server 2012 R2 through Windows Server 2022 (Data Center / Standard editions).
- Core Network Services: In-depth knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, IPAM, NTP, and Kerberos/NTLM authentication.
- Scripting: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell for administration, module development, and automated monitoring.
- Management Tools: MECM/SCCM, Intune, System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), or modern monitoring platforms (e.g., Opsramp, Splunk etc).
- Virtualization & Storage: VMware vSphere, SAN/NAS integration, and RAID configurations.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset under high-pressure scenarios.
- Excellent technical documentation skills (creating SOPs, RCA documents, and architectural diagrams).
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior/intermediate engineers and lead technical projects.
