Job summary

HIM International School in Itanagar is seeking an experienced Mess Manager to oversee the daily operations of the school mess and hostel dining facilities. The role requires planning balanced menus, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring food safety and quality across meals.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Hotel Management or related field, with extensive experience in large-scale mess or institutional catering.

Qualifications

• Graduate or postgraduate in Hotel Management, Catering, Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
• Minimum 35 years of relevant experience in managing a school, hostel, institutional, hospital, residential school or large-scale mess/catering operation.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene, nutrition, kitchen operations and inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire operation of the school/hostel mess to ensure smooth functioning.
• Plan and supervise daily menus with emphasis on balanced, nutritious and hygienic meals.
• Supervise cooks, kitchen helpers and mess staff.
• Ensure timely preparation and serving of meals as per schedule.
• Monitor quality, freshness and quantity of food and raw materials.
• Maintain stock, purchase, inventory and consumption records.
• Uphold strict standards of food safety, hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas.
• Minimize food wastage and ensure economical use of resources.
• Coordinate with School Administration, Hostel Department and kitchen staff.
• Handle complaints related to food quality and take corrective measures.
• Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Maintain discipline and professional conduct among mess staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall management and smooth operation of the school/hostel mess.
