Job summary

BASICS Menswear is seeking a detail-oriented Merchandiser – Apparel to support end-to-end thread and trims merchandising, colour matching, ERP item code creation, PO management, and vendor coordination in Chennai.

The role requires coordinating with designers, production, and warehouse teams to ensure timely GRN processing, stock monitoring, costing, and production support for smooth merchandising operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline; preference for Fashion/Textile related studies.
• Experience in apparel merchandising or trims management is desirable.
• Good working knowledge of ERP systems, PO management, and Trim BOM processes.
• Understanding of garment production, fabric types, colour approvals, and trims.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate thread matching and colour approvals with designers upon receipt of RSS yardage.
• Create new thread item codes in ERP for new colours and ticket threads.
• Generate purchase orders based on monthly fabric incoming schedules.
• Coordinate with production to determine thread consumption requirements for new styles each season.
• Prepare and share RSS thread item code files for Trim BOM uploads in ERP.
• Arrange sample thread cones through online vendors.
• Coordinate DTM threads when required.
• Follow up on thread dispatches and arrange alternate threads for pending requirements.
• Verify bulk trim cards after work order processing and coordinate their issue to factories.
• Ensure PO closure after BOM approval and GRN completion.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Merchandiser – Apparel to support the merchandising operations of BASICS Menswear.

The role involves managing end-to-end thread and trims merchandising activities, including colour matching and approvals, ERP item code creation, purchase order management, vendor coordination, inventory monitoring, costing, and production support to ensure smooth and efficient merchandising operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate thread matching and colour approvals with designers upon receipt of RSS yardage.
• Generate new thread item codes in ERP for new colours and ticket threads.
• Coordinate with production to determine thread consumption requirements for new styles every season.
• Prepare and share RSS thread item code files for Trim BOM uploads in ERP.
• Arrange sample thread cones through online vendors.
• Coordinate DTM (Dye to Match) threads when required.
• Follow up on thread dispatches and arrange alternate threads for pending requirements.
• Coordinate thread matching and colour approvals with designers upon receipt of PP yardage.
• Conduct roll-wise shade band checking and thread matching for bulk fabrics.
• Prepare bulk thread item code files for Trim BOM uploads in ERP.
• Generate purchase orders based on monthly fabric incoming schedules.
• Share purchase orders with vendors and coordinate dispatch timelines.
• Monitor daily PO status and follow up on pending orders.
• Coordinate with the warehouse team for timely GRN processing and approval.
• Resolve thread quality issues, shortages, and discrepancies.
• Arrange alternate threads for pending quantities after work order release.
• Verify bulk trim cards after work order processing and coordinate their issue to factories.
• Ensure PO closure after BOM approval and GRN completion.
• Coordinate excess stock returns, purchase returns, and debit note requirements.

3. Inventory & Cost Management

• Monitor thread and trims stock availability and coordinate replenishment.
• Share excess stock details with designers before seasonal planning.
• Identify reusable, excess, and obsolete trims.
• Coordinate new thread and trims requirements with vendors.
• Prepare and update seasonal thread and trims costing details.
• Verify vendor bills and coordinate payment-related activities.

4. E-commerce & Digital Coordination

• Prepare and share item code files for e-commerce photoshoots.
• Verify item codes and colour details against product images.
• Coordinate image-related colour discrepancies and corrections.
• Prepare Instagram grid and reels item code and image mapping files in coordination with the IT team.
• Coordinate with designers, production, merchandising, warehouse, finance, IT, and other internal teams.
• Maintain effective communication with vendors regarding orders, dispatches, quality issues, and pending requirements.
• Ensure timely follow-ups on purchase orders, material availability, GRNs, and vendor payments.
• Resolve operational discrepancies and ensure smooth merchandising operations.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline; a background in Fashion Technology, Textile Technology, Apparel Merchandising, or Business Administration is preferred.
• Experience in apparel merchandising, garment manufacturing, thread and trims management, or purchase coordination is desirable.
• Good working knowledge of ERP systems, purchase order management, and Trim BOM processes.
• Understanding of garment production, fabric types, thread matching, colour approvals, and trims.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and operational documentation.
• Strong vendor management, communication, coordination, and follow-up skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production timelines.
