Job summary

PeopleStrong is seeking an experienced MEP Engineer to lead plumbing, fire protection and life-safety system design in Mumbai. The role requires coordinating with architecture, structural and other disciplines to deliver compliant, buildable drawings and calculations.

You will review design deliverables, mentor junior staff, and ensure timely submission of drawings, BOQs and specifications while advancing project timelines and QA standards.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech in engineering relevant to plumbing/fire safety.
• Experience in designing plumbing, fire protection and MEP systems.
• Knowledge of national/local codes and compliance requirements.
• Ability to lead design reviews and coordinate across disciplines.
• Experience with hydraulic calculations and load/flow analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for plumbing water supply/distribution and drainage.
• Design Fire Life Safety systems including hydrants, sprinklers and pumps.
• Prepare and verify design calculations, riser layouts and schematics.
• Coordinate interfaces with architecture, civil and other MEP disciplines.
• Lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers and ensure QA compliance.
• Support tendering, vendor inputs and site clarification activities.

Education: BE / B.Tech - Bachelor of Tech / Engg.

Develop detailed designs for plumbing (water supply/distribution, drainage/sewage), domestic water systems, drainage, sanitary & sewage systems.

Design fire protection systems — fire hydrant, sprinkler systems, fire pumps and associated piping/layouts.

Design Fire Life Safety systems including fire ventilation, smoke extraction, pressurization (for basements, service shafts, staircases/escape routes, refuge zones).

Prepare design calculations, load/flow calculations, hydraulic calculations, pressure requirements, riser layouts, shaft planning, and schematic as well as detailed design drawings/BOQs.

Review and finalize design deliverables at various stages (concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC).

Ensure compliance with relevant design policies, building codes, fire safety codes/standards (national and local), municipal bye-laws, and authority requirements.

Prepare documentation for local authority submissions, fire & safety approvals, and ensure all statutory compliance for plumbing and fire safety. Stay updated on any changes in codes/regulations and ensure designs reflect current compliance standards.

Coordinate design interfaces with architecture, structural, civil, architectural-architectural finishes, and other MEP disciplines (HVAC, electrical, ELV, etc.).

Conduct design coordination meetings with architects, structural engineers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Resolve design clashes, interface conflicts, and ensure integrated services layout without compromising safety or functionality.

Work closely with consultants, local authorities and project teams to meet project requirements and timelines.

Manage a team of junior engineers and draftsman. Allocate design tasks, review deliverables, mentor team members, and maintain quality standards.

Ensure timely delivery of design drawings, calculations, reports, submittals, and coordinate internal reviews / QA processes / documentation.

Support tender activities — review vendor/contractor proposals, submittals, material specifications related to plumbing/firefighting/FLS.

Evaluate contractor/shop drawings, review and approve vendor design inputs, materials, and vendor deliverables.

Provide technical clarifications, manage RFIs, change orders, and variations related to MEP fire & plumbing scope during execution.

Provide design clarifications during construction & installation phases, coordinate site visits, support commissioning, testing, inspection and handover.

Ensure that installations conform to design intent, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.

Liaise with project management, site supervision, quality control, inspection agencies, and local fire authorities.

Prepare and maintain detailed design reports, calculations, BOQs, specifications, as-built drawings, and final submission documents.

Track Design Delivery schedules for design deliverables and handover, highlight delays or risks, and coordinate with project managers to meet milestones.
